Recording audio through amplifier

tjm_pike

My friend makes his own "radio" show where he plays music from either a cd or record player and does voiceovers then records it on his phone and sends it to his mates on WhatsApp. All devices go though a mixing desk then into a pioneer a-20 amplifier to go to his speakers. He currently then puts his phone in front of a speaker to record it. I was wondering if there is a way to record from the amp to his iPhone 11 and/or his laptop directly to get better audio quality. I have done research and tried plugging into the record out RCA port to a 3.5 mm jack then a jack to lightning but the phone wont take it as an input.

I'm sure people have more knowledge on these things which would be greatly appreciated thank you!

I'd get a device with a line input port, and plug that into the line out on the amp. The 3.5 jack adapter for the iphone is probably a audio out only, and explains why it won't record from there.

What mixing deck is it? Can't he just pipe the mixer out to the PC input and record from that?

If everything goes through the mixer like you said, he should be able to pipe the output of the mixer into the input on the computer and then use a program like audacity to put his voice and the music together.
