AM4 Upgrade Help

Hello, currently thinking of upgrading my CPU to a 5700x, (relevant PC specs are in my profile). First I would like to know if you think this is a good choice to remove any potentially minor bottlenecks in games as well as leaving headroom for a GPU upgrade in future.

My second question would be about a bios upgrade. Almost certain my bios would need an update so I’d like to know whether I need to update the bios beforehand (with the 2700x) or when I get the new CPU, or if it shouldn’t matter. Thanks a lot and if you’d advise I consider a different CPU / different upgrade path please say!

thanks all 🙂

Upgrading from the 2700x to 5700x should be quite a decent jump but I would say that you should get the 5700X3D if its not totally out of budget 🙂

Just update the BIOS with the 2700x.  Some motherboard lose compatability with the 1st and 2nd gen ryzen CPU's after updating so wait until you have the Ryzen 5000 on hand ( this is due to the limited code that can be written on the BIOS, limited size  🙂 )

If you're going to upgrade then may as well just grab the 5700X3D instead which will be quite a massive jump from 2700X.

If you can stretch the budget a bit, the 5700x3D would be a great upgrade after a bios update.
Got the same motherboard btw, works nicely with my ryzen 5600 here.

Good MB, can handle any AM4 CPU you throw at it, considering if the BIOS gets properly updated before

5700x3D is the fastest CPU you're aiming at (5800x3D isn't worth unless you're grabbing it cheaper from second-hand market)

A 5700X wouldn't even solve the bottleneck you have with the card you already have at 1080p. It would do a lot better than the 2700X for sure.

For the 2070 on 1080p, I'd recommend a 5700X3D or 5800X3D. Those would even feed a stronger GPU without issues once you switch to 1440p or 4K.

As for the Bios, update it. Always update your Bioses.

Hey, thanks for the reply!

im planning on trading some things in at a uk tech shop called CeX, I’d love to get the 5700x3D however the 5700x is 135 there and a 5700x3D is 200+, is it quite a substantial increase in performance?

if there’s any better trade in deals you know of please say, thanks again for the help!

That is indeed quite the difference in price.

I wouldn't say the 5700X3D is worth it for 50% increase is price, its not 50% faster.. Not even with a 4090.

According to Hardware Unboxed the 5700X3D is around 20% faster.

Here is a 10 game average at 1080p with the RTX 4090.

I can't make this decision for you unfortunately 🙂  I can only give you input and information so you can.
