Student needs help deciding on some deals

Budget (including currency): $1600~1700 CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Coding on VS/VSC, Games like squad, helldivers, Elden ring etc.  My current pc has an i7-8700k, 16 GBs of 2667 MHz ram, and a NVIDIA GTX 1080. I'm looking to break into 1440p gaming

Other details:  I'm probably spending my money poorly on the case and cooler, I will probably downgrade to cheaper parts where applicable. Additionally ill probably be buying parts over a long period of time instead of all at once to take advantage of deals where possible, I'm assuming Nvidia cards should drop in price once the next generation is announced so ill be purchasing the graphics card a bit later in the year. I also have some questions about some of the back to school deals currently going on from Canada Computers, what would be the more "economic choice" between these two CPUs? Also what decisions should be made when determining which motherboard to get? I don't really know what kind of differences they make. Doing some light research it seems that the intel chip performs a better on benchmarking, however I don't think it can utilize the full 6000mHz that the ram offers.

This isn't usually a good idea. You don't actually save much, if any money by doing this because of how parts trend downward overtime, and because you don't have all parts together to test everything, it's possible you get something defective and it's outside the return window by the time you get everything and figure it out when it's a lot harder to get a refund/replacement. Generally you should just buy everything at roughly the same time (within a week) and not over a month or longer. 

 

This doesn't apply if you're upgrading a system, since then you're able to test individual parts as you upgrade, it's just for whole builds where you don't want to buy overtime.

It can for both. The 12700KF is the faster CPU by quite a bit, so if you only care about CPU performance it's the clear winner. As for the RAM, 6000MT/s is about the limit for what just works at XMP on all 12th gen CPUs, but that means that it still should work if you enable XMP. Not that it really matters, even with 4800MT/s RAM it should still be faster than the 7600. 

 

The 7600 setup does have its own advantages though. First off, the memory controller is a bit better, so if you wanted higher speed memory with a lot of capacity or do memory overclocking in general, it should be less finnicky (though both suck when it comes to running 128GB+ of RAM, the 7600 is just less bad). The 7600 is also on AM5, which should have a better upgrade path if you were going to upgrade the system though the years. That said, the B650M-P it comes with is not a great motherboard, so upgrading to a 11950X or whatever the Zen 7 16 core called in a few years probably isn't a great idea, but an 11800X3D should be fine. The 7600 also draws significantly less power, so if you care about power draw or how much it heats up your room in the summer, it's worth considering, plus it also will require less cooling (though getting a Thermalright Peerless Assassin should handle both for pretty cheap). 

 

I'd still probably go for the 12700K if it's between those two combos though, just for the extra performance.
