I am here looking for Help finding a new Monitor for my Setup.

My Current monitor is a Samsung Odyssey G7 bought in 2020 that still works, the problem is that with my new stronger Glasses the Monitor Curvature (1000R) Literally makes me sick 😕.

So i am looking for a new Monitor without Curvature.

Here is what i am looking for:

  • Budget: looking for around 500€-800€ but could go up to around 1200€
  • Resolution: at least QHD (2560x1440)
  • Size: 27" +- 2"
  • Refresh rate: at least 120Hz
  • Response time: I am not sure, Read down below what i use it for.
  • Screen: Flatscreen, not Curved !
  • G-Sync: Enabled
  • Brightness: Around the levels of the G7 (G7 Specs: Min.300cd/㎡ , Norm.350cd/㎡,Peak 600cd/㎡) i have it at around 75% All the time.
  • Stand: Should have its Own, does not have to be Wall Mountable.
  • PSU: Does not matter if Inside or External
  • Speakers: Does not matter.
  • Panel Type: I am not sure, it should have great Colours and decent Blacks. (Read down below what i use it for)
  • Quality: If possible one that has a lower risk of Backlight bleed (Better QC or Better Manufacturing in general) i had some bad luck with that (read below).

What i use the monitor for:

40% Gaming

  • AAA Singleplayer Games (Cyberpunk, Assassins Creed, Hitman, etc.) (That is why i need Great Colours, since i like to enjoy the looks of some Games)
  • Very Few Multiplayer/Fast Paste Games (Warframe, Planet Side 2, etc.)
  • Plenty of Video Streaming  (YouTube, Netflix, etc.)

50% Watching Videos and Movies.

10% Other.

During the Search for my current monitor i tried the "ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ" but i had so much bad luck in the panel lottery that i had to send back 2 of them because both had very bad Backlight Bleeding.

My current G7 also has some Backlight Bleed but way less then the Asus ones.

I absolutely love my LG UltraGear 32GQ850!  32'' 240hz 2560x1440 with Gsync.

Its only used for gaming and mostly Single player games / open world RPG's and World of Warcraft.  Some Hell Let Loose of course, I need my FPS fix.

I tried a dozen different monitors before landing on this one and I am super impressed!  I dont see myself switching monitors for at least a decade ( My xb271hu lasted 9 years )

The 32GQ850 does everything I need and more.

Backlight bleed is something I am very sensitive to and one of my main concerns on monitors and where other monitors failed 'my personal test' the 32GQ850 passed 🙂

I also own the 27GP850 27'' 165hz and its fantastic too, this is only used in my simrig ( Will upgrade soon, I want larger for simrig ).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask 🙂

@Hinjima isn't 1200€ budget enough for OLED monitors, or are those still terrible and require like 2000€ budget for ones that won't have issues?

He writes that he is looking for a monitor in the 500€-800€ range.  He does say that he can extend the budget to 1200€ but what I take from his post is that he is most comfortable in the 650-800€ range.  I gave him a great option without maxing out his budget.

With that sort of cash you can actually grab a 27" OLED like the Samsung G6, it's supposedly great... and doesn't cost anywhere above a full €1000 at all.

is G6 known to not have burn-in issues? (since it's an OLED monitor)

Probably not unless you extensively use it wrong, like all newer panels do the prevention cycling anyway. I mean any modern full display OLED could burn it but you would have to use it like a text panel on street and it would be silly to do so. 🙂

yeah, but don't the cheap OLED panels have same "preventions" too and still potentially end up more often burnt in?

Probably but the G6 isn't that level of cheap really. For sober fact, most OLED, let be W-OLED or QD-OLED have had those preventions since the past years. It's been that way for a while. What I'd be afraid of, is using an older 60 Hz LG TV (you know the early gen curved ones), or simply more unbranded, cheaper panels. Like some early era tablet displays and such. I honestly can't think of many modern, expensive OLEDs that don't protect themselves. This is why you don't hear burn-in as commonly as you used to.

yeah but OLEDs used to be expensive, so you didn't have chance to hear much of burn-in due to their price,

though looking at reviews, even the cheap OLEDs don't seem to have many issues, though I can't know how old those reviews are, and there aren't that many (less than 10 for each monitor)

As i am looking into OLED monitors i found a recent LTT video about QD-OLED-Gen3 displays, at the moment of the Video there were only Curved ones available. Are there some Flat one available now ? And would that fit my Requirements ?

depends, most OLED monitors are really good by design,

the OLED technology is so good with colors it's hard to go back to any other technology,

it's also one of the fastest ones, with actual guaranteed specs other monitors (especially cheap ones) promise within a margin of error,

and of course there are flat OLED screens too.

It's up to you whether you'll get a nice OLED or some good IPS monitor, for example the one @Hinjima mentioned earlier,

both will most likely be great choices.

If you're interested in OLED monitors, try searching for flat OLED monitors in your budget and see if any of the models received reviews on YouTube or RTINGS website. (either easily findable with [pasting the monitor's model] + ["review"])

Reading all that i think QD-OLED GEN 3 will be the Option for me. But i cant seem to find any flat 27" monitors with a GEN 3  panel.

the only flat 27inch qd-oled panel is the 271qrx

if there are other models in EU, just make sure it's gen 3 qd-oled that came out this year, not gen 2 or woled.

I Think i found another one. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G60SD  (LS27DG600SUXEN)

Sadly no manufacturer states wich Gen they use.

But since it came out this year i would think it is Gen 3

looks like the msi is glossy and the samsung is matte, same panel so it's personal preference.
