I recently began a phase in my life where I’ll be moving every few months, and cannot leave my computer plugged in during the day- as such, I chose to leave my PC at home for the next two years. I don’t play anything particularly demanding, and I’d rather not spend a ton of money on a Gaming Laptop. Because of that, I’m considering purchasing a windows laptop and eGPU to handle my gaming needs. That way, I can have my parents ship the 1080ti that’s currently in the desktop.

Right now, I’m thinking a thin-and-light with at least a Ryzen 7 or i7, and 32GB of RAM. I’m comfortable upgrading the M.2 and RAM (if unsoldered) myself. I’m also willing to buy refurbished.

Any suggestions on which laptops I should consider? I’m thinking in the <$1,000 price range, ideally even less. Right now, I’m thinking about a ThinkPad.

Any reason to not go with an ROG Ally X and eGPU USB4 enclosure when you want more capabilities?
