I recently managed to snag a R9 7900x3d on amazon for $541 aud (~$360 usd) to pair with my 4070ti Super. It was actually cheaper than buying a 7800x3d ($598 aud or ~$400 usd).

I know that only 1 of the ccd's, so 6/12 of the cores have the 3dv cache hence gaming performance is slightly worse but I also use my pc for a lot of Data Science and ML so the extra cores and clock speed will definitely be worth it.

I was just wondering about how the core parking feature works when gaming. A lot of the time I will have some code running in the background while playing a game, so I would probably rather all the cores stay awake and take the hit on gaming performance. Is there a way I can chose when the cores park (only gaming) vs all stay active (gaming with code running in background).

Thanks in advance.

It’s really unfortunate but I think you may have read some of the misinformation surrounding these chips and how they handle different tasks at different times. Assuming you have the latest chipset driver and your game bar is turned on in Windows 11, starting up a game doesn’t mean the other course just straight turn off and can’t be used for anything. That’s definitely not the case they stay enabled and they handle all the other tasks that aren’t game related.

I think you should probably just get it installed get it set up correctly and just see how things go. You really don’t wanna overthink it.

yeah, that's how modern cpus work, they don't just sleep when they're needed...

dw. just install the thing don't forget to remove the plastic cover of your cooler / apply thermal paste (that's about the extent you need to care about handling modern cpus - unless u got intel then you're royally screwed, most likely, lol)
