So while the controversy, regarding the instability and quick degradation, of intel's 14th and 13th gen i9's and i7's is going on, is it worth it to try my luck and go with an i7-14700k or should I save my sanity and go with the more stable i9-12900k?

Rest of the specs:

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, 16 GB, GDDR6X

Motherboard: Asus PRIME Z790-A WIFI

CPU cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420mm

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast, DDR5, 64 GB, 6000 MHz

System drive: Kingston Fury Renegade, M.2, 2 TB

Additional drive 1: Kingston KC3000, M.2, 4 TB

Additional drive 2: Crucial BX500 CT2000BX500SSD1, 2.5", 2 TB

PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 12 1000 W, 13.5 cm

Case: Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL

Additional info:

Upgrading from an i5-9600k and a 1060.

Going to be using it for creative work (video editing, 3D work – after effects, blender etc) and gaming (fortnite, cs 2, indie games and possibly VR)

Not interested in AMD.

I wouldn't go for a 12900K just because of how bad the memory controller is. If you really want to avoid the instability issues, go for a 13700K as I'm not aware of anyone who has had the instability issues on that chip while it being faster, easier to cool, and generally cheaper than a 12900K.

May I ask why you're not interested in AMD though? They really are the better pick for your workload.

From what I've read and charts I've seen intel and nvidia just work better together in software, that I extensively use (premiere, after effects and blender)

oh

well if it's only those two then I would say the 14700K
But as RONOTHAN## said above the 13700K should be well enough (enough as intel will get) and 12th gen left a bad taste in my mouth with unreliable performance

I edit my messages more than not –

Probably some dude on the internet

Where'd you see that? Nvidia GPUs work better in those applications in general, that's correct, but CPU wise it comes down to the specific CPU for which is better. Blender in particular it's not even close when comparing Intel and AMD CPUs for doing CPU rendering, where the AMD chips just demolish the Intel chips.

Plus next gen AMD CPUs are launching at the end of the month and are supposed to be a major performance uplift.

Yeah, but I'm not going to be using CPU rendering in blender, on the other hand based on the article you send, intel processors outperform AMD in adobe's video editing software, where it matters more.

Saw a video from a tech service owner and that said that 13700's have the same problem and are basically brought in as much as 13900-, 14700- and 14900's

Won't they cost way above the MSRP at first tho? Especially since I live in a smaller country where the demand for tech isn't that high.

And what AMD processor would you recommend anyways, in the same price range as 12900k-14700k, considering video editing is somewhat of a priority.

Possibly, but I'd at least wait until then to find out and see what their pricing is.

May I ask for a link to them? Every report I've seen for instability has been either a 13900K, 14900K, or 14700K. The non-Ks and 13700 have very few, if any reports that I've seen, I'd assume from them being clocked so much lower and having much lower stock VID tables.

It would help to know which country you're in to know how the pricing is. US pricing likely won't line up, but it's what I'm going to have to go off of.

If you are going to buy something, a 7950X(3D) would be the best. It's currently ~$500, which admittedly is $100 more than the 14700K, but the 14700K also requires a lot more cooling and a more expensive motherboard, so considering the entire platform cost it should come out to about the same. A future 9900X or 9950X would also be a good pick, though I'd wait till you know pricing and 3rd party performance data is released to say for certain.

It's 663,99€ here, basically 200€ more expensive than a 14700K, which is 465,00€. Is it really worth it?

Do remember that if you go AM5, the motherboard and cooler are also going to be a fair bit cheaper (likely by about 50-100 euro each), so the entire platform cost is going to be a lot closer than 200 euro. I'd say that if it's somewhere around 50-75 euro, for the entire platform cost, yeah it's worth it, if not either step down to a 7900(X) which will be slightly slower but probably a fair bit cheaper or just stick with Intel.
