What places can I look at to find more "scientific" reviews of tech products?

I used to be fairly up to date on this, but I cleared out my tech feeds and subscriptions on YouTube a while back to improve mental health. I don't want to resubscribe to them and get tech news every day, I just want a good way to reference the most up to date information without a ton of opinion style content. I know of channels like GN and Jerry Rig Everything, but where do I go for things like phones? Laptops? Other consumer level hardware? What channels and sites provide the best information without just reading off a specs sheet?

Just outright don’t.

youre talking about cleaning up your YouTube content consumption for the sake of your mental health, but like, do you really need to give a crap about new phone specs?

how important is that to you really? Or are you just looking for a substitute to what you were previously looking at that makes you think it’s better, just because it’s plain format content and not “entertainment”

Let's say my personal laptop dies. The laptop market is a steaming pile of trash for the most part, and 95% of laptops manufactured are manufactured e-waste. So where do I go to learn what the options are so that I don't buy garbage?

If nothing else comes up, you just CLEARLY indicate your needs and this forum can point you to good options.

Just limit your research to when you actually need a new device. for example, if you have a good phone, there is no point in learning all day how a newer model is so much better. in electronics, hee is a good chance something better comes up right after you bought yours.

And even good reviews are limited by the fact that they don't cover YOUR specific needs.

For entertainment and to generally stay up to date, GN and others are good. Or browse this forum.

And i agree, most reviews suck and are paid advertisement.

Consumer reports (if you have a library card)
rtings

its not all on youtube.

I think your judgement on laptops is a bit misinformed though. And for laptops spec sheets do tell you 85% of what you need to know about the relative performance vs the market.

RTings and Consumer Reports have good, objective reviews that aren't filtered through someone else's interpretation.

Just searching the web for "[thing you want to learn about] reddit" can lead to some insights, or a rabbit hole. You have to take individual anecdotes with a grain of salt, but if you see a bunch of people report similar experiences over time, that wider picture is usually pretty spot-on.
