Advice on turning my old G13 into a Macro/Hotkey Board

Hello there everyone, I've spent a few days now thinking about and looking around about this.
I have a small desire to try and make some things easier on myself and my poor hands by taking my old dusty G13 I had lying around and making it into a Macro/Hotkey board, saving myself from the constant fun of 'Ctrl + Alt + Windows Key + whatever key'.

The thing is, I never really liked LGS. I had a lot of issues with it that just kinda turned me off from Logitech.
So I just wanted to ask ya'll here, is there really no real way around LGS? At this point, I just want to be able to configure the thing without having to install another not-so-lightweight control panel.

The board has been around for a while so I just wondered if there was a control panel that could remap/reprogram the thing similarly to how RGB controllers like openrbg or signalrgb exist. (The best comparison I could think of.)

My ideal goal is to be able to assign hotkeys and macros to either non-physical keyboard keys or even just unmapped keys on the g13. But first I need to get to that point before even bothering with the thought.
