Definitely not the M50X's they are horrible but the HD 560S are good tho. More bass and treble - Tygr 300R. Neutral sound - HD 560S

what about open back?

What do you mean? You mentioned the HD 6XX in your original post.

The DT990 series is very bright. This means high frequencies like female vocals, violins, etc. are emphasized. This can lead you to believe that the headphones are "extra detailed" and it can be very exhausting to listen to. This isn't a problem for older people since high frequency hearing gets worse as you age.

I'm ~30 with great hearing, and I despise the DT990 series.

edit: what the fuck does any of this have to do with "gaming" in your Post Title?

Why do you think someone would intentionally recommend you bad headphones...?

SM7B are absolutely dog shit microphones for the money. In fact, somebody ripped one apart and found a SM58 in it, believe it or not. Explains why it's so shit, especially at that price level.

You definitely don't need to spend $350 on a mic and even at $150 there are mics that will absolutely murder anything Shure that is below worth a grand.

Headphones are entirely about preference and there is no "best"

V shaped - are bass and treble emphasized - very fun, but obviously not accurate

Bright - treble emphasized - very detailed, but can be fatiguing to listen to. good for people with age-related hearing degradation.

Neutral - hear how things should sound - boring, but if you're seriously professional, then you want this

Warm - mids and bass emphasized - "laid back", very euphonic and enjoyable

Closed-back - generally more bass, sound isolating

Open-back - wider sound, generally more detailed and accurate, sound leaking

This is why you're not specifically being recommended 1 headphone. You're being given options and it's your responsibility to pick one or buy both

This is such a bad way to look at this.

You're not throwing away money because there is no best. Even if there was a #1 headphone, it does not mean headphones ranked #2 through #50 are a waste of money. They all have their inherent sound style.

ATH-M50X is like rank negative #10000 and are shit headphones though.

It's not your money, so who cares. You said it was the bosses money and he wanted the best... Unless you are lying to us. 😜
