Titan X Troubleshooting!

kerncraftergold

Hey!  I'm trying to help a friend fix a (Nvidia Founder's Edition) Titan X (Maxwell variant) and don't know what to do next.
The card's lights will turn on, and the fan spins (even responding to temp from what I can tell), however, the card will not show up in windows, NOR will it output any video.  Upon a thorough inspection, we haven't found any blown caps, "burn" marks, or anything else that would be suspicious.
From what I understand, my friend was using this as a daily driver, and one day, it just didn't turn on.  He found his power supply voltages were fine, and the rest of the computer works great with another GPU installed.  Putting this in my computer (beside or alone from my 3070) proved the same result.
We're hoping to get this fixed and use it as an encoder/video processor for a homemade (home) server. as it should be powerful enough for the given use case.
Some Googling suggested a card BIOS flash, but I don't know how to do this, and all of the bios images found are modded.

Any suggestions anyone has would be most helpful--thanks in advance 🙂

has this card been repasted? Maxwell cards are pretty much going to require a repasting at this point, as well as pascal based GPU's. See if cleaning it and repasting helps.

Can you include a photo? A second set of eyes never hurt, since some PCB damage can be barely noticeable.

One thing to note though is that this card is 8 years old at this point, and GPUs do have a tendency to up and die around them. Add the fact that most Maxwell cards weren't exactly built that well (especially the reference cards), and it doesn't exactly surprise me that it's dead at this point. My next step for figuring this out would be to take a multimeter around the card to see if there's a missing voltage rail, though at the same time unless you have soldering skills and equipment, this isn't likely to be cost effective to fix, especially since if your plan is to use it for video encoding you can get a Quadro P400 or P600 for ~$50 that will do a better job for at significantly less power draw, basically the same price as a half decent soldering iron.

If you do want to try to flash the BIOS, you can find external flashing utilities for relatively cheap, though they're annoying to use and not guaranteed to actually fix anything.
