i5 12600k and proxmox

I'm not exactly certain if Proxmox uses a kernel that's P/E-core-aware, but in general Proxmox doesn't pin a particular VM to any particular core(s), it will allocate CPU power as needed (as dictated by the core count given to the VM).

Howdy! I'm looking to build a home server using proxmox. The cpu will be an i5 12600k and with that I was curious if there would be an issue with selecting efficiency or performance cores. Since the i5 has 6Pcores and 4E cores. Will proxmox be able to discern? Or will it prioritize the Pcores when I'm assigning VMs certain cores? Is it possible to dedicate the Ecores to running proxmox and the P cores to running my VMs?

Even if it isn’t good at knowing which core to put work on, it probably won’t matter. Even the e cores on a 12th gen CPU would be way overkill for almost any home use case. 
 

Unless you are planning to do some seriously heavy homelabing, I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
