16 gb ram but only 7.9 usable

pivelson

so i recently installed a new ssd and when i booted the computer it only said 7.9 usable and 8.1 hardware reserved, i read online about changing the stick's placements and that worked for a day until the pc suddenly shut down and it went back to 7.9 usable again, i tried just about everything ive seen online and nothing works, i dont think the sticks are the problem because ive tested other sticks and it has the same problem. Just wondering if somebody has had the same problem

But you have tried reseating both right? Also like what kind of sticks of ram are they? Also if you have XMP turned on in the bios turn it off and see if the problem persists

What mobo do you have? Does it need bios update? Are the ram ports dirty? The ram itself dirty?

You also can try reseating the CPU. If the memory controller pins of the CPU are not making contact properly, you can experience some weird RAM issues.

honestly i wish i had saved it, years ago in another forum someone had a bullet proof fix...

but anyways do as said above,  but also reset the cmos battery (remove it for like 10 minutes while the pc is off and not connected to power)

so reset cmos

reseat the ram, reseat the cpu (even tho the cpu probably isnt necessary)

update bios, update chipset drivers...

canned air, isopropyl alcohol minimum 70%, more is better (can also use a soft brush in combination with the iso)

ps: also try different slots if possible i guess
