Port in a lamp

Skyblock

I've no idea what I'm looking at from that picture… what type of lamp is that? Maybe you can control its color from the network or something.

Otherwise, the port is called RJ45. Cat 5e is a type of network cable.

question, does rj45also deliver any power? or maybe its a link to a series of lamp so you turn one on and the others do as well

It can. That's called Power over Ethernet (PoE) and is typically used to power switches and other network peripherals. But you need network equipment that supports it.

Would it be remotely (heh) possible that they are using it here as a daisy chaining instrument?

Might be. Could also be that their Wi-Fi routers are integrated into the lamp, and the lamp has the option to also share wired network access.

For example we have IP-phones at work that are attached to the network and you can then plug your PC/laptop into the phone to get access as well.

Still strange though. if it IS for that, then it not having a cord is strange

The lamp seems to have two cables coming out the back, so one could be power one could be network. The port would then be there for you to plug in your own machine, using your own cable.

picture is too dark and angle is bad to really tell, but it could be an RJ11 for room service phones, but they likely got rid of the phone but kept the lamp. was a very common way of cable managing the in-room phones.

You're at a hotel. That's probably a pass-through intended for the room's phone. (Have newer hotels started putting IP phones in the guest rooms yet?)
