New SFF-build

Budget (including currency): 25 000 sek or less

Country: Sweden

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Titles like Mindustry, Xcom, Civ, ARK. Programs like Photoshop and office stuff.

Other details: I'm not a big fps gamer, but I do like my 4k resolution so I need a GPU that will be able to render that, including large .MKV.

Want a machine that can hold its own for the coming years. 2TB fast SSD, Quiet(!) and a small form factor would be very nice. Is Mini ITX out of the picture if you want the most bang for the buck? Komplett.se has the Cooler Master NR200P case for 649:- at the moment and it's much smaller than my old Chieftec Dragon. Dust filters would be a good thing though. Low energy usage is always a +. I'm thinking quiet air cooling.

Will be able to reuse my old PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, 750W, if you think it can handle the new system.

Will be buying this side of the year. Is it worth waiting for black friday or should I just go ahead now?

Don't really care about: RGB, plexi, visuals and noise. Comp will be placed out of sight.

Thank you for helping out, really appreciate it!

I think this comes to approx 25,000 sek?

Thanks Tetras,

That comes to below 17k so almost too cheep 😛

How come you would go for the Phantek Eclips case, it's better than the NR200P I take it?

My old PSU will do fine even if I choose a better CPU?

Anything else to improve here as I do have quite a bit left in the budget?

Anything than can make it less noisy?

Your G2 PSU is 180mm long. It will not fit in most of the smaller mini-ITX cases.

The NR200P case requires an SFX PSU which is smaller than ATX.

Oh, did I make a mistake? Is it because I converted the wrong currency? I did KR to SEK in Google and it said 17000 kr was 25000 sek.

No, it is basically because I was too lazy to learn all the dimensions for a new case, because with SFF cases you have to be really careful that everything (CPU cooler, graphics card length/width, motherboard and PSU format/length) fits in the case and even when you check those dimensions, sometimes one of the parts can impact the other parts, for example: if you fit a PSU that is too long it can take space that the CPU cooler uses, or something annoying like this...

Honestly, it is quite a good fit for a case that size, the 13500 and 4070 are both fairly energy efficient and not too difficult to cool.

Here's an alternative for the full budget, main change is the graphics card and a micro-atx case:

Hey! A big thank you to both brob and Tetras!

I picked throw you partlists and came up with this, what do you think?

Kept my PSU and went with the Phantek case where I believe it will fit and I'll save quite a bit, upgraded CPU and SSD. Will the cooler be able to handle CPU (PCPartpicer warns me possible comparability issues w/ mobo)? Maybe I should change the memory to brob's suggestion G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory?

Any suggestions or improvements?

Thanks, really appreciate it!

I think it would depend if:

  1. You run the CPU power limited.
  2. If you mainly game and do single-core/thread oriented stuff.

If the 13700K is run power unlimited in heavily multithreaded apps, it is a monster CPU that really needs a decent AIO.

In TPU's review of the 13700K, they used a Noctua NH-U14S for temperature testing and while gaming temps were fine (73 degrees), in blender the CPU hit 100 degrees at stock settings.

It has a top-mounted PSU I believe (strange, but true), so can support standard ATX PSUs. Part of the cost of this compatibility, is that the case dimensions are not very small.

For example, the dimensions of:

  • Phanteks 200A (ITX): 205 x 365 x 400
  • Lian Li 205M (MATX): 210 x 402.5 x 400
  • Aerocool Trinity Mini (MATX): 206.5 x 353.4 x 385

I'm not sure where the second M.2 slot is located, but I believe the primary M.2 slot of the Strix B760I already has a heatsink?

Before you buy a 4070 you may want to check HUB's roundup, here:

TPU reviewed lots of them too, which you can find listed here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviewdb/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA/RTX-4070/

The warranty lengths may also be different in Sweden.

There is room in the case for a full size CPU cooler. Consider something like the AK620.

I'm not a fan of using an unlocked CPU with a locked motherboard.
