RAM Upgrade for Laptop

Go to solution Solved by aisle9,
  1. You're going to have to open it up and find out. This isn't the sort of thing published in consumer manuals, or even technical manuals. The answer is frequently, "whoever's selling it for the lowest price".
  2. That's dependent upon the answer to question 1.
  3. Have you looked at a picture of this laptop?
  4. Have you read a single article, a single review, or, hell, even the Amazon listing for this laptop?

I'm might be this laptop: "MSI GF63 Thin, Intel Core i7-11800H, 40CM FHD 144Hz Gaming Laptop (16GB/512GB NVMe SSD/Windows 11 Home/Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050, GDDR6 4GB/Black/1.8Kg), 11UC-1293IN" soon, but I had a few questions

1. What is the name and brand of the RAM?

2. Is XMP available?
3. How many fans does it have? Can the speed of the fans be changed (exact RPM)?

4. Is the storage ab M.2 SSD? If yes, can it be upgraded to a 1TB M.2 SSD?

Thanks

I am planning to build a computer, I dont have an actual custom build. My laptop specifications are listed on my profile.

NOTE: I prefer: NVIDIA GPUs and Intel CPUs, CPUs which support LGA 1700 (An okay future-proofing method). Z790 Motherboards but B series is also okay (No H Series). Wanting to use XMP.

Current PC Plan:

CPU: Intel i5 12400F (Benches show that it is faster than the Ryzen 5 5600X, despite the Ryzen having more cache)

GPU: RTX 3050 8GB or RTX 3060 12GB (I like the software advantages of the RTX over Radeon)

MB: MSI Z790-P WiFi (I prefer MSI for its BIOS, looking for a reason to use ASUS)

RAM: Patriot Viper Venom [2x16, 6000MHz, DDR5, UDIMM, Non RGB]

SSD: XPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE 1TB Gen 4x4

PSU: DeepCool DQ750M-V3L [750W, GOLD 80+, Fully Modular]

CASE: MSI MAG Forge 112R [4 Fan] (Looking forward to using Mystic Light software)

COOLER: DeepCool AK400 Zero Dark Plus (Minimal, No RGB and cheap)

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Hypnotoad's RAM is dying, his motherboard is acting like the 6-year-old AsRock it is, a couple of SATA ports have just stopped working, but the RGB remains. The RGB always remains. Hypnotoad lives. All glory to the Hypnotoad.

To find the ram you can also run software. CPU-Z will report the model listed in the SPD. Thaiphoon Burner can give more details like the specific chips used.

XMP is pretty rare in laptops, more likely in higher end ones than the one described. You could simply look in the bios and see if any option exists.

Main system: i9-7920X, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance LPX RGB 3000 8x8GB, RTX 4070 FE, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

In the majority of laptops I've used, RAM speed is a non-negotiable BIOS preset that you don't have access to. "The RAM runs at 3200 cl22 and ONLY 3200 CL 22, no more, no less"
