Bought used motherboard, might be screwed.

MarkusDaNuttman

Hi all!

I have recently bought a used ASUS ROG Strix B450-F GAMING. When i got the part i realized all mounting for cooling was removed. I didn't have the foresight to think about this before buying, and only found out when i tried to mount the stock cooler for my AMD Ryzen 5 5600. I looked at the cooler, with its four screws, i then looked at my motherboard, with its four holed, no threads. Behind the motherboard, where there usually is some mounting gear, there is nothing.

I will add a picture for context.

I am not here for sympathy, but rather some tips. Is there any way of fixing this? Should i nag the seller? Is there any coolers i can buy where all parts for mounting comes with? The ones i have been looking at mounts to some kind of hardware already installed to the motherboard.

Thank you.

I'd ask the seller to send the rest of the hardware (except if it was clearly stated in the ad) or ask for a refund.

That's not nagging.

That hardware is the kind you stowe away in a box and forget about.

I'm willing to swim against the current.

If the board wasn't showed as it is in the ad yes, if not then it's on you and there's no point, they would have included it if they had it.

There are definitely some companies that provide all the hardware.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
