water cooled radiator fans?

LemmingSee

Hey i have just inherited my first water cooled rig. my question is in regards to the cooling of the radiator. while cleaning dust left by the previous owner i noticed the radiator for the water cooler is sandwiched between 2 fans both blowing air towards the radiator. ive never had a watercooler but this seems unintuitive to me. shouldnt it be exhausting outside the case instead of two fans blowing at each other fighting each other? ( btw i was given the pc because the other owner complained of over heating )

Definitely a NO GO, they should blow the same direction, so if you do fans on both sides, it should be push-pull. One fan pushing air towards the radiator and the fan on the opposite side pulling the air away from the radiator.

You can use the radiator as both intake and exhaust, as long as the pump (mostly the CPU block) is not the highest point (at or above highest point of radiator).

Generally if you go push-pull, you do -> FAN -> radiator -> FAN -> with the arrows being the direction the air flows.

I assume it was now set up as -> FAN -> radiator <- FAN <- ?

The best config is to mount the fans with their cage supports facing upwards on both sides of the rad, this takes fresh, slightly pre-warmed air from the GPU and exhausts it straight into your room

The best config is actually intake on the front. It is a few degrees superior to top mounting.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
