SATA power cable won't plug in to SSD

Levii1234

My power supply just died on me so I went and bought a new one, but the SATA power cables are different and won't connect to my SSD, or any of my drives. Do I just need to push harder? Old power supply is Thermaltake Smart 500W, new one is Thermaltake Smart 700W.

That SATA power looks like it's clad almost like a Molex header instead of a SATA header. Regardless,

Thermaltake Smart are garbage power supplies. Are you eligible to get a refund on this? Any decent 500W PSU is preferable to a really bad 700W unit

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I would get a higher quality power supply. Like a Seasonic Focus semi-modular - I have one, works great

I had a Thermaltake Smart 600W unit. It couldn't drive what a high quality 450W one could.

That's not what he was asking...

Guys, the quality of the power supply is irrelevant, as that is not what he is asking about.

It really looks like you need to use just a little more force to get it to plug in. Just make sure it's in the right orientation.

Yeah I'm aware it's not high quality it's just what's available right now. But still, it should plug in right? lol.

I've already pushed it pretty hard I'm just scared to break it. If they should both work then I don't understand why the cables are different.

Like I said, something looks wrong with the shape of the connector. Have you got a caliper on hand, or anything you can measure it with to see if it's actually the right size compared to the old connector?

A big part of crappy PSU quality is the build quality. If thermaltake pushed a bad unit out the door and it wasn't even up to snuff for connecting the SSD, I am of course going to recommend a different unit.

I just went and tried on my brother's connector which looks visually identical and it worked so I think you're right and it's just bad build quality. Going to try and get a refund tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
