My entry to AM5

This is the setup ill buy in a few months the way it stands now. If you got any idea's feel free to give them.

 

I do have one question with the 6700 xt, how long do you think there will be driver support for it.

 

Budget (including currency): about 1000

Country: The Netherlands

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 4k playback, gaming, computing in general

Other details 

I've got a old Pure Rock cooler i'll be getting the am5 mounting kit from be quiet.

Still have some storage laying around i'll use to get started. alltough i might buy some better storage to start off with .

To give some explaination to the choices:

CPU- Ryzen 5 7600x, to get started and upgrade if needed later.

Motherboard- ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi , becuase i wanted B650 and wifi. 

Memory- G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30

Video card- PowerColor Fighter Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB

Case- Lian Li LANCOOL 205M MESH MicroATX Mini Tower Case, seemed good enough

PSU-  Silverstone DA850 Gold 850 W, 850watt becuase i wanted some overhead to futureproof.

 

My future idea's for this build are to potentially upgrade the gpu and cpu at or near the end of the am5 lifecycle. Rest need to be good enough now and later aswell. 

 

Edit: Adjusted my plans, i'll just buy the setup fully ones i can. Researched the RX 7600 and it seems crap so not going with that. 6700 xt seems the better choice.

firstly, comparatively the card's performance can be matched with other cheaper graphics cards for several games, not to mention if you care about RayTracing

 

secondly, the GPUs just launched, so it's possible that due to their similar performance to the cheaper cards, the card might cost less in the future or will likely to be discounted, perhaps

 

- there's probably more to it that I don't know, because I don't know much, yet I know enough to know that it's a bad idea

Thanks for the insight. What if i where to go with the 6700 tx a tried and tested gpu. The way i see it Starfield is a nice discount on the card.

Keep in mind that you have to have the gpu installed in your system to get the starfield code. You have to run a program that verifies that you have the hardware installed before you get the code. I had to do this to get my starfield code attached to my account. I believe this is probably to prevent people from selling the code to others after buying one of the promotional products.

Buying a 6000c32/5600c30 kit or whatever hynix a die based kit is good enough

 

7200c34 is just overpriced hynix a dies, same stuff as on 6000c32 kits, same stuff that easily does 8000+ ddr5, just that its overpriced and outright performs worse at xmp or xmp straight up dont work

 

Buy 6000c32/5600c30 and overclock em to 8000+ later on

From my experience at least (bought one of those kits a month or so ago with a recent manufacture date), they're still possible to be M die. That not that bad, most M die will still do DDR5 7200 with a bit of effort, but it's not guaranteed A die. You don't get A die "guaranteed" (it's still possible to be M die, though no kits made in the last year will be M die so it's very unlikely that you will get M die) till the 6400 CL32 speed bin, and true guaranteed till 6800+. 

 

For the most part though, yeah the 7200 rated kits are kinda pointless, their XMP isn't reliable to work on Intel and it's actively slower than a 6000 CL32 kit on AMD.

Can't say i fully understand you. However i take it going with something like 6000cl30 is just as good and cheaper?

Thanks for the info, good to know. I guess ill just buy the full setup when it's time.

Long enough that you'll not want to upgrade the card before it loses driver support. Probably 7-8 more years.

What i like about AM5 is that it has more longevity with a potential upgrade. AM4 would net me a better GPU for the same.
