Gigabyte H97 board

Xeon E3 1280V3 CPU

Gigabyte 980

32GB DDR3

SSD boot drive

I powered the machine off last night, due to possible thunderstorms in the area (previous night, the power went out for 4 hours, and the machine was dead when I woke up, but booted as normal when I pushed the button)

This morning, I came out to power on the machine, and it POSTS, then pulls up a GIGABYTE BIOS screen, with a blue background, then power cycles. Cannot get into the BIOS, it just power loops ad infinitum.

Well, of course, I post this, then I manage to get into the BIOS next try, and now it boots. o.x;

This is why I have a 3900XT system all set to replace the E3 1280V3, as soon as I can get new SATA SSD's for it.

Go ahead and disregard this, I guess.

One thing you can do to mitigate the risks of power failures is to buy a UPS. Sure, they are not free, but they are far cheaper than replacing components on a pricey computer 🙂

For those who say that a UPS won't protect during a 4 hours black out, yes the UPS will protect. It won't keep the computer on because the battery does not hold enough power for 4 hours, but there is an app you install on your computer that links to the UPS and allows a smooth shutdown when the power stays out for a certain amount of time, or when the UPS is about to run out of power, etc.

Have a nice day !

One thing you can do to prevent boot loops is to copy the main BIOS to the backup BIOS, so both are the same.

I have had several boot loops in the past with my Gigabyte LGA1155 motherboards.

This is actually what I think the problem was, I think it was trying to boot off the old BIOS (F1) instead of the newer BIOS (F7).

Now that I'm home, I'll look into copying the BIOS from the primary chip to the secondary.

I have a UPS. It only gives 15-45 minutes of run time, after that, it's dead. The last power outage here started at 01:20 and lasted until 09:12. That's significantly longer than the run time of my UPS.

I have the CyberPower control panel on my computer, my run time on the server is 40 minutes, roughly, and it's set to shut the computer down when there's 5 minutes of run time left on the UPS.

Last night, I shut both systems down myself, fearing another multi-hour outage, which didn't happen, and ironically, that was when the server's board decided to freak out. o.x
