New Amd Ryzen 5 5600X Idle Temp 65C+

Pioneerx

So i bought a new Amd Ryzen 5 5600X the shop i bought it installed for me and i am idle sitting on 65C right now and even goes up to 70C.

When i use Cinebench to stress the CPU it doesnt get more then 85C that i think is normal.

Even on 85C i dont feel hot air coming out of the cpu

Any ideas?

If you're not feeling warm/hot air, it's possible it wasn't installed correctly. Either missing/improper thermal paste application and/or they left the plastic cover on the cooler plate.

I would return it to whoever installed it and point at the temperatures. 65-70 idle is not ok regardless, especially for a 5600X.

Your cinebench just being started and it's in the late 80s is def not working correctly.

This or super bad airflow, choked case, badly installer fan running backwards against the rest

Weird thing is 85C Cinebench (which is normal) vs 65C idle, I have same 85C in Cinebench but 40C idle ...

What cooler are you using? Looking at the clocks speeds, the CPU doesn't seem to be idling. Temps are fine.

Stock cooler on the cpu and some on the case.

I am idling and i have bad clocks speeds? maybe its a bad windows install cause i have a feeling thats the problem

Those aren't bad clock speeds. They're just not idling and that's normal since background processes can cause the CPU to boost. Temps seem normal with a stock cooler and perfectly safe.

The stock cooler on a 5600X is extra shitty. You should consider getting a better one.

That's pretty warm. What case and fans are you using?

Are you using default motherboard settings?

i dontknow the fans but they are ok last setup would never get that high on the same pc case

i dont know what to do tbh i might buy a new fan for the cpu only way to solve it i guess

Stock AMD CPU Cooler -- those are normal temperature ranges for the stock cooler.

What case / chassis (brand + model) are you using?

"2 fans at the front, and 1 in the back" doesn't mean anything if is a poorly designed / ventilated case.

To put it into perspective..

My 5600X idles in the 20s, games in the 50s-60s while running at 4850MHz.

My 5600X has a Peerless Assassin 120SE White ARGB cooler on it, inside a Meshify C.

Got a 5500 with PBO currently on stock cooler, so basically near 5600 performance.

It idles at 52 degrees, and goes up to 95.5 under 100% load on Handbrake. In a similarly breathable Pop Air.

Got AG400 on the way, finally. But yeah, this thing isnt sustainable long term on boost algorithm thats meant to boost to the cooler limit. Id rather not overclock it myself, its just my daily driver i wanna run reliably.

That should work well for you! I wouldn’t worry too much, I don’t think you hurt it 👍🏻

Not about hurting, its about having to spend the 15 minutes i couldve spend elsewhere. I want my dailies to be fast but if itll cost me reliability in significant manners through crashes, id rather not.
