Looking for thoughts on this build on what could be done better or perhaps cheaper if possible and if all is balanced. Be critical please

https://sk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nKyVsL

No storage as I plan to reuse my SSD and on GPU I am not yet certain as I will only add that month or two later, looking at either the 6800XT, 4060TI (can get a good deal on local shop) or 4070. The choice depends on funds.

Plan is to primarily use for gaming and also programming (ramand cpu intensive docker app). Currently use 1080p 60hz monitor, but plan on upgrading down the line to 1440p +100hz.

Please be critical on what can be done better, ideally cheaper without loss of performance and if all is balanced

Pretty good build, and price optimized as well!

Only con is that it'll be on a dead end platform with DDR4, only upgrade would be a 13700 which will be a very meh upgrade

So I could suggest an AMD "evolutive" build with same perf but a bit more costly (+100EUR), also got the fan equipped case version

@PDifolco By the way can I ask, what do you mean by fan equipped case version? The non-rgb basic pop air comes without fans?

According to wikipedia, much of RaptorLake's lineup is architechturely "probably AlderLake", which I agree with.

This mean 13600 is closer to 13500 (which HWUB has a review of, so you should check that out), than 13600K/KF, which is "real RaptorLake".

This does not mean it's bad - 13600 use (most likely) ADL arch but more cores more multithread performance(shown in HWUB 13500 review), so the docker images should run well. It would be suitable for your purpose.

All that said, the 13600KF is available for 30eur more, and is what I would choose. (I want highest 0.1% and 1% lows for my high-fps esport game).

You've also paired the CPU with DDR4 and a motherboard that looks ok (has heatsink for the VRMs). DDR4 will leave some performance on table but is also cheaper right now. It is hard for me to make a combo, best look at more reviews.

if you go down the ddr4 route, cheaper b660 option with slightly cheaper steel viper 3600 saves a little bit of money. You should ask the retailer to update the BIOS for you ahead of time, if it doesn't have one of those no-cpu bios upgrade thing. If you go ddr5, maybe the 700 series motherboard has better memory compatibility. something like the 173 eur b760 (im too lazy to link it), with 125eur ddr5-6200 is a paid upgrade option.

lastly, alderlake if cheap enough is still worth considering. Just as good as "fake" raptor lakes in games, less multithread performance. it is more suitable to have a cost-down ddr4 alderlake budget option than ddr4-raptorlake, because you'll have to upgrade everything in the next cycle anyways! So disregard upgrading the CPU+MEMORY+MOBO option, as DDR5 will become faster and cheaper too.

for 520 eur the 6800XT looks good. Unless significantly cheaper than MSRP, I don't think 4060Ti is a good card with 8Gb VRAM, if I wanted compromise(performance), I would buy cheaper options that is aplenty with ARC770, RX6600/XT/6700 non-XT and 3060/Ti being more affordable now. 4070 is ok on msrp. I usually use techpowerup's relative performance chart to measure. NVidia GPU's are usually better for esport titles, just a little bit but worth mentioning.

That cooler for 40eur is good (I think? not sure)

I see Aorus P GM 750w available for 99eur, which would be better. Worth noting it's cheap because it shared name with the ill-fated EXPLOSIVE P-GM that is now infamous. Though the Aorus is still gigabyte's flagship PSU, and AFAIK doesn't explode, so I would pick that up, or the 850W Aorus to accomodate 6800XT.

There are just alot of options on the market right now, I don't think you can make a particularly bad combination.

On monitors: 1080p to 1440p is less of a upgrade than 60hz to 144, but 1440p still looks alot better. non is close to 4k. 4k144 is not that far off becoming cheap, so keep your eyes out, as it would help with programming + any text content massively. I say this with 1440p 27'', that it is noticibly less sharp than 4k 32''. Also its probably just me but i can feel 144hz vs 120hz, so there's that. eitherway, massive upgrade for you.

Happy Building!

I suppose it has no fans according to pics (didn't really see one), maybe it has some non RGB fans, pls check

I will double check to make sure, but good point you make regardless, I hadn't thought to make sure on this

Yeah those are possibilities as well, 13500 is 30€ cheaper and 13400F 75€, which is money I could put in better GPU. Then again compromise on CPU is compromise on my programming need, but 13400F should handle what I need perfectly fine. Decisions, decisions...

@PDifolco's build is decent but the ram is pretty bad for Am5 and the 7700x gets really toasty due to its 8 cores being centered around oen spot

Going off @Why_Me's recommendation of a 13500 (or maybe even 13600k), I would get this build
