If your not sure its booting/boot looping try running using motherboard video output. We’ll see where to go from there

CPU : I7-6700k 4.6ghz GPU : MSI GTX 1080

There is no GPU on that CPU. So that won't do anything.

Does the computer restart? Like do the fans go loud again after some time?
Did the red light never turn on before?

I think it has not sure, the pc restarts just fine. the fans are loud at boot but then get quiet

If you leave it like that, it doesn't restart anymore on its own though?

Are there any other lights on the Motherboard, that you can see? Usually there are some debug LEDs. On your board they're there

If you have an old video card, even something like a 1050, I would plug it in to see if you get a signal.

Also this is what your lights mean (from https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/ROG_STRIX_B550-A_GAMING/E17120_ROG_STRIX_B550-A_GAMING_UM_v2_WEB.pdf ):

Green light means that system went through Yellow ( RAM ) , RED ( CPU) and white ( GPU ) and got stuck on something at green. I would try to disconnect everything besides essentials. Including storage. Because if you reach green light it means all of the components have passed checks and system should be booting.

Here is page from ASUS on how to read the post codes with video:

https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1042678/

Also the reason I asked about a different video card, is yours may have died.  If its still under warranty, I would reach out to gigabyte.  However if its stopping some other place in the post, that might be the problem as well.

Also check you have something plugged into the CPU fan header....I just know POST likes to hang if no CPU is detected along with the other suspects.

Dont try taking the card out and reseating etc.... in fact dont move it at all. The gigabyte 3xxx series especially seem to have really thin pcb's that are cracking in very high numbers. Of course Gigabyte will void the warranty for physical damage so dont even send it. They are a terrible company.

I had a very good experience with Gigabyte just over two years ago.  I had a Gigabyte GTX 1660 Super develop artifacts after 7 months of use.  I sent it back and they sent me a new GPU right away.
