Are there smart home plugs that run on 5GHz?

On Amazon, I only seem to see 2.5 GHz compatible smart plugs. My internet is only on the 5ghz bandwidth. I want to be able to turn on and off specific lights with my voice by plugging their cables into smart plugs into the wall. Is there a way to do this? I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to post this in hobby electronics or general...

Do I have any other options for smartifying my system without resorting to making my own firehazard smart controllers that connect to bluetooth instead?

Look into home assistant, and zigbee or Z-wave.
 

Home assistant is a nice little piece of software that will control everything and tie all the different ecosystems together.  For instance, I have almost no HomeKit compatible devices, but with home assistant I can present them all to my iPhone and control them via HomeKit.

The reason why they are only 2.4 Ghz is because as you go up in frequency you get less range and penetration power. 2.4 Ghz likely would be able to cover most of a parsons house, 5Ghz may cover the house depending on on big. Also a lot of IoT devices dont require a lot of bandwidth so there really isn't any point to them having 5Ghz radios. I recall a proposed WiFi standard using the 800 or 900 Mhz band for this purpose, but I dont think it was ever ratified.

For good reason I suspect.  Would be great if you live in a mansion but imagine people trying to use it in dense apartment complexes where the range would mean hundreds of a different networks all talking over each other.  Also good luck if the devices you use have poor security, someone miles away could be fiddling with your devices.

I was wrong. It was a published standard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11ah Just no one decided to use it.

I think WiFi 5 and newer routers are required to be simultaneous multi band, based on the standard. WiFi 4 was the only standard where it might be one or the other.

Are both of your bands using the same SSID? I've seen more routers (esp ISP provided ones) merge both and let the client and router sort out which band to use.
