Xiaomi is improving it's android updates I have questions ?

Nior2008

The last time I checked (xiaomi 12t pro) it was 2 years android, 3 years miui and 4 years security.

Today I went with my older brother and his girlfriend (aka pooky bear) to a xiaomi store, we found out that xnow gives flagships 3 years android, 4 year miui, and 5 years security. She's interested in the xiaomi 13 pro because she's a learning photography from my brother and she can't afford to get a phone and Camera so a 2 in 1, since some people say the 1 inch sensor is about the same as a good beginning camera.

Is 1 year really mke that much diffrence?

Come on xiaomi even samsung does 4 years minimum on their A series phones.

Do these updates cost the company money to push or red they free?

Anything can stay updated even when the manufacturer doesnt support the phone anymore as long as theres a community around said phone and xiaomis flagship killers like that 12t pro you mentioned tend to have pretty big communities around them

so when the manufacturer stops supporting the phone you simply unlock the bootloader install a custom recovery like twrp and flash a custom rom like lineageos or whatever custom rom you like

Although why do you care about android updates in the first place? Aside from oveerstated security "benifits" that youll never have to rely on since most ppl arent idiots and sideload malware onto their phone cause "ooh cracked program for free" and the ones that do problably run noroot firewall like me (though i havent screwed around with sideloading cracked stuff in a long time esp when i got money now) I dont see any benifits of android updates

this is coming from someone whose phones are all hand me downs from my parents and only just now with my current phone being a phone bought for me (there was an old xiaomi but idk where that went) running either android 4 5 or 6 and it was like that for years up till recently i got a j7 2016 that ran android 8 (my a7 2016 broke, it could run android 7 but i chose not to update). Also i dont even bother updating my current phone so afaik this vivo is still running its factory android 11 version which is around a year old by now, and no issues here either

Any update costs money to push in both server cost and having a team package the update... and hopefully test it so it doesn't break anything unintentionally (the latter most likely doesn't really exist that much).

An update to the software will never increase the amount of light hitting the camera sensor..........that is a hardware limitation.

Xiaomi do however have a pretty decent software solution to the manipulation of the imaging. Similarly Apple were able to give constantly good image results with much lower camera specs for many years compared to Android phones in general..

For good photos on phones you need to have a good balance between the camera hardware and the software used by the phone maker to get the best results.

As for learning photography when I was at art academy we were taught using Black and white before moving to colour film as B/W teaches one the finer aspects of detail and definition. These days with software gimmicks one can make a photo of a tramp and make them look like a prince or queen.

So software will never make a good photographer is the easy answer.

As for the cost of updates the reality is that any phone maker wants you to replace on a regular basis to maximize profits and those extended services etc are merely for marketing more than anything else.
Samsung Apple fan whatever if their customers were to keep their phones for 3 or 4 years they would suffer huge financial losses.. The industry thrives upon those that update phones every 12 to 18 months.

All I can say is well done.....too often perfectly good and usable phones are being dumped by people to chase the latest new shiny.

Anyways for the photography side of things most phones tend to take the easy road and give people the point click experience removing the need to learn the aspects of focal lenghts and film speeds etc so have her learn composition. A well composed photo is the real difference and even if the composition is lacking the ability to use the software to crop and make adjustments after the point click is useful.

I suppose the real issue is have fun and enjoy making photos is the real answer and not the must have latest upgrades hardware or software as they do not make the "better" pictures.
