Update from OS X 10.8.5 to macOS

Go to solution Solved by maplepants,

Your Mac should be able to run High Sierra, but upgrading from Mountain Lion via the App Store might not work.

So I'd recommend you backup your data then download High Sierra: http://updates-http.cdn-apple.com/2019/cert/061-39476-20191023-48f365f4-0015-4c41-9f44-39d3d2aca067/InstallOS.dmg

Create an install disk and install it on your Mac.

Once done, install High Sierra via the App Store: macappstores://apps.apple.com/app/macos-high-sierra/id1246284741?mt=12.

Those links are from here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683 which also contains more info that might help.

Basically I have a 2011 MacBook Pro, and I know it’s capable of getting to macOS, and I need that for the app I want to use. The problem is in the image. I have tried restarting, but idk what to do now. Thanks

Wait so I have double clicked the .pkg and it says it’s installed. Now what? EDIT: my mistake I just checked and now I install it through the applications folder

Opencore Legacy Patcher works very well with the 2011 Macbook Pro.

Must have's; SSD, 16gb DDR3
Nice to have's; 2012 Wifi Card for Bluetooth 4.0

If you have the 15" with faulty GPU, you can bring the machine back to life by disabling the AMD card.

D.I.Y. visual artist trapped between a love of macOS, and a desire to build machines. Settled on;

2009 Mac Pro :: 2x X5690 :: 96gb DDR3 :: 5700XT :: macOS 12 :: Windows 10

2015 MacBook Pro :: 2.8ghz i7 :: 16gb DDR3 :: R9 M370X :: macOS 12
Above average knowledge of anything Apple. Saving people money, and making Macs more powerful/last longer for creators.
