PC sudden shutdown

So I was just playing ARK Survival Evolved, PC was working as usual, when suddenly it shutdown with one RAM stick just having its lights on. I switched off, then unplugged the PSU, and the light in the RAM was still on for a few seconds before turning off.

I let it rest a bit then reseat the PSU cables. Then when I tried turning it on, the scenario on the video happens.

Afterwards, I tried to do the followong tests

  • PSU Paper Clip test (5 trials) turns on fine
  • Remove all other compoments, only the PSU and MoBo are connected via 24 pin (5 trials) turns on fine
  • Add GPU (5 trials) turns on fine
  • Add CPU (5 trials) turns on fine
  • Add Storage drives (5 trials) turns on fine
  • Add external cables (DP from monitor, USB for Keyboard, Mouse, wireless headset, and 3.5mm for speakers) turns on fine, but when I shut down, and I try to turn it back on, it won't turn on at all, I press the power button, and nothing, not even the thing in the video happens. Just. Nothing. Evem if I remove them all, it doesn't turn on, if I wait for a few minutes, it turns on fine again (still with all external stuff unplugged)

PS: I noticed, that when I turn off the PC using the power button (hold it for 5 seconds) it turns on fine, but if I shut it down using windows, the issue happens

Honestly I'm at a loss, can anyone help me as to what is causing this issue? It's weird that it happens out of nowhere, when I have used it my PC fine for 4 years (the CPU and GPU were upgraded back in December)

Specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x3D
  • GPU: RTX 3070
  • Mobo: B450 Gaming Pro Carbon
  • PSU: Cooler Master  MWE 750W 80+ Gold
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 3000 MHz

Something drawing too much current on start? What all devices are plugged in and have you individually tested each one?

Keep in mind that Ryzen CPUs generally won't POST unless it detects a keyboard.

Tested individually, mentioned in my post. PSU paper clip test is ok, MB+PSU only is ok, added all other components and they're ok.

Just when I added external cables (DP for monitor, USB for keyboard, mouse, wireless headset, 3.5mm for my speakers) when the issue occurs (it won't turn on)

Tried to test with only DP plugged, it POSTED, even without a keyboard plugged, reached the lock screen of windows.

Tested DP + 3.5mm - OK

Tested DP + Mouse USB at front panel - OK

Tested DP + Mouse + 3.5mm - won't turn on

Tested DP + Mouse + Keyboard - won't turn on

Definitely a weird issue, I'd look into updating the UEFI firmware and testing between different USB ports. Something is screwy on the USB bus, whether its a power problem or an issue with POSTing, potentially the chipset since I imagine it might be one of the few things operating through the chipset. If you can narrow it down to any particular USB port(s) then that can aid in troubleshooting, if its more than one causing the issue.

Isn't UEFI the same as BIOS? Cause my BIOS is updated. I don't think it's a problem with POSTING at all, since the PC won't turn on at all (no lights, no fans turning on)

If I manage to turn it on without peripherals, then plug the peripherals, it runs fine, I'm able to game no problem. But when I shutdown the PC and try to turn it on, it won't, even if I remove the peripherals connected. It'll be able turn on again after some time.

If it is a problem with USB ports, is it due to a faulty MB? Which is weird, cause when it manages to turn on, it runs fine

Technically no, they're both the motherboard's firmware but UEFI was a new thing in about 2014. Basically the BIOS 2.0 with a lot more native feature. I always say UEFI/BIOS and/or firmware because technically its the UEFI, but most people still think of it as the BIOS.

Motherboards are complex, its one of the reasons why I personally don't skimp on them or ever buy them used. There's a thousand things that could go wrong with them that I don't trust even a well meaning individual to validate fully.

It could always just be a chipset driver issue as well, but that'd be the easy solution. There's a bunch of stuff to shotgun at an issue like this and ideally one or the combination of several solve the issue, unless its just a hardware issue with the USB port(s).
