No post on new AM5 build with a 7900x

ShadowDog

Hey folks!

I build my new server today, with the following specs:

AMD Ryzen 7900X

AsRock b650M PG Riptide

64 GB F5-6000J3040G32GX2 GSkill ram (supported by motherboard).

Couple of older SSDs on SATA

Be quiet! PURE LOOP 240mm Water Cooler

No GPU

Be Quiet 650 Watt straight power PSU

Issue is the following: No post and both the DRAM aswell as the CPU LEDs are red, on the mobo.

Tried the following things already:

Made sure that the power cables attached to the mobo are seated correctly (also on the other end in the psu)

Tried reseating the cpu

Tried every possibility possible seating the ram, but ofcourse including what the manual says, which is having them in A2 and B2.

All parts are new, i don't buy used products.

What i find so weird, is that both the cpu AND the dram LEDs are red, since i can guarantee you that this cpu is NOT broken.

p.s. tyvm in advance! 🙂

Edit:

I read that sometimes it can take up to 2:30 mins to post the first time (my motherboard manual), but i gave it 10 mins with no results.

are your front header connectors (pwr switch, pwr led and another one i can't remember) are they all in the right header slot. They should be one a header with a 10-1 layout.
Also check your power switch is on

Flash the latest BIOS and try again.

I don't believe my motherboard can, without being able to post.

But if you tell me i can, i believe you, and i will look into how to do that right now 😄

Have you tried each seperate RAM stick in different slots?
How did you verify the cpu, do you have another computer you could use for the ram and mobo aswell?
Sometimes part just arrive dead, even if its new. Im guessing your motherboard might be faulty. You can also try clearing the cmos just in case that does anything

The front panel cables are all correct yes 😄

Power switch is definitely on lol, fans are spinning. The issue is the server isn't posting.

This is a very good point you might be making.

The watercooler i got, didn't include in the darn manual, what cable is the cpu cable, and what cable is the pump cable. It really pissed me off tbh.

I will try to switcharoo those 2 before attempting a bios update.

The power connectors are fine, but i feel very silly...

I litteraly had nothing connected in the cpu fan header 🤦‍♂️

Watched a tutorial of how to install this watercooler, and gonna give it 10 mins again to post.

Will report back.

No luck it seems like folks!

@GuiltySpark_how would i go about doing this without being able to reach the bios?

According to what i found from my official mobo website is only this guide: https://asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=BIOS10

Edit nvm i guess thats what the bios flbk is for ^^

All AM5 boards but one ITX board have this feature. The details will be in the manual. I’d throw it all out but I’m on my phone. I also have an Asrock AM5 board.

Where can i read these codes on the motherboard?

I was about to take everything out and try it on the mobo case, to see if theres a short circuit.

sorry those codes were for if you had a seven segment display (like the ones you see on old stopwatches)

No worries 🙂

I am really suspecting a short circuit in my case, considering i can't think of anything else, even with my 15 years of hardware experience.

There is a reason why i asked you folks 😜

If not i suspect a borked mobo which would suck.

your cpu might also be broken. At least you have warranty on these parts. Shame to use it now tho

Fixed it!!!

15 years of hardware experience paying off i guess 😄

I used a combo of what yall told me to do, aswell as taking out the mobo, for potential short circuits.

List of things i did for potential future topic finders:

Update bios through FLBK

Make sure 2 sticks of ram are in a2 and b2.

Reset cmos through jumper two times AFTER updating the bios.

Taking out mobo for potential short circuits, using the good ol screwdriver technique to boot the system.

Please ignore the horrible monitor, its for server usage after all 😉
