PCI-E short connector pad - what is it for?

Yes that is the thing that Im asking about.

So why the Intel ARC has more of them than MSI Ventus RTX 2080Ti?

And Why they are only on one side of PCB? On second side of PCB there is only one shorter pin on both cards (ARC and Ventus)

The Intel ARC A750 PCB connector.

They are only on one side because that's the way intel/nvidia/amd designed it. Each maker has certain specs that they must adhere to, but there are different ways to reach the end goal.

And the socket isn't mirrored, each side is independent of the other. For example, the first pin.. One side is 12v, the other is presence.

This is MSI Ventus RTX 2080TI, MSI RTX 3060Ti Gaming Z Trio has the same. Intel ARC A750 has multiple cutouts on single side of pcie. What are theose for? I cannot find any info about that.

Edit.

To be clear, I mean the short pad on PCB, not the gpu locking thing.

Well that one is for securing the card into the PCI slot to prevent it from coming loose, there is usually a release catch just to the right of that section of the slot.

(assuming you're talking about the short connector pad) Those are PCIe presence detect pins. Meant to connect last in the case of PCIe hot-swap. Perfectly fine.

If you mean the shorter pins, it is so that they contact later than others. Generally you want a device grounded before power is supplied.
