What board should I get?

I've been out of the PC building space for a few years, and looking to do a 7800X3D build in a few days.

The ASUS TUF board looks nice, PCIE 5.0, good M.2 slots.  I won't use the wifi.  Any board that might be a better fit for me? I don't need tons of connectivity as I'll mostly game. I'll have a webcam, mic, and other normal things but that is it. 2.5gb NIC is nice.

A few optimizations concerning cost though case is personal choice, rams are upgraded for the sake of futureproofing (8000+ capability) and rgb has been moved to the cooler instead

Id reccomend the b650(m) aorus elite ax cause boatloads of i/o for dirt cheap, though im not sure why pcpp lists it as incompatible with the 7800x3d, maybe giga hasnt released a bios update to support the 7800x3d or something idk

I was thinking a full ATX board as its easier to work with.  I also like a  little bit of the higher end coolers.  What was wrong with the RAM?

Theres an atx version of the board i reccomended

Peerless assassin and phantom spirit are hih end coolers for a fraction of the cost, look for some cooler benchmarks on yt and youll see what i mean

6000c36 is problably gonna be meh rams like samsung 16gbit b die that top out at a pathetic 6600. 6000c32/30 are hynix a dies thatll go 8000 and beyond so when you upgrade your cpu all you have to do is overclock your rams instead of swapping them out to make use of the new cpus better imc, 8000+ should ride out the entire ddr5 generation if skylake imc was anything to go by (topping out around 4000 which is still faster than standard 3200c16 now), raptorlake tops out at around 7600-8400 depending on how lucky you get with the imc, check out luumi vids on yt where he ocs hynix a dies to 8000+

A lot of that was over my head.  My RAM was 6000c36, the RAM you're suggesting is 6000c32? What is the 8000 number? Sorry I'm rusty on the RAM stuff...

8000+ clocking capability so if you got the imc to run the rams at their full potential then theyd do 8000+

6000c32 is the bin i reccomend cause hynix a die which does 8000+, for now you can just run it at stock 6000c32. Cas doesnt actually do anything for performance aside from benchmark scores but it is a good timing for getting specific ics, if you are interested in squeezing abit more out of the rams then tighten trfc, trc, tfaw, trrd-l/s, and max out trefi which is as simple as it sounds, for stability testing use prime95 large ffts or any equivalent stress test (ex tm5, memtest bootable usb or hci memtest, etc.), may wanna add 0.05v vdimm for tightening trfc

Again mostly over my head, but I'll just get the RAM you said haha.

I think the -F is a nice savings?

Overpriced junk, again b650 aorus elite ax best value am5 board, all you are getting with that board is useless branding, doesnt even have a postcode ffs and its nearly 300$, what a joke

I think I'll do all your suggestions, but go with the

Noctua NH-D15 cooler.

Look at a 360mm AIO, for the 7800x3d.  If it's designed to run hot like the other am5 chips you'll want all the cooling you can get to let it run.

The Pro AX is another option, a touch more stout than the Elite AX, usually for very little more.  Can't go wrong with either, just depends on your needs.

Peerless assassin or phantom spirit performs similarly but much cheaper compared to the d15

if you are looking for more cooling performance just go straight for a liquid freezer ii or one of the ek aios, you can direct die aswell to mitigate the abysmal ihs heat transfer

Per another post I think I'll go with an AIO.

Yep, the Arctic is the top cooling AIO, with the Deepcool and EK very close 2nd/3rd give or take.

Good build, the 4090 is a personal preference so won't comment.  Looks great otherwise.

Decent but overspending on the psu and slight overspending on the ssd

200$ gets you a 1200w psu not a meager 1000w

Vortex redline performs the same and is abit cheaper than an sn850x

What is a better PSU choice that still gives the 12 pin connector?

I'd love your take on the 4090.  It seems like the 4070ti has too little VRAM for the next few years of 4K gaming, and the 4080 is kind of a bad value, I feel fine spending $400 more at that point.

I had a 4070ti in my current system and was getting game crashes due to VRAM (RE4 remake).  It just felt like a card that was not very good for the next few years, maybe okay for today.
