It's the same here in the UK.  Got an email the other day from Scan Computers "Come and have a look at these *great* GPU deals"

First card i saw was an RTX 3070 for 80 pounds OVER the nearly 2 year old MSRP.  It's absolutely stupid 😞

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

I feel there is high risk still due to the mining fall out. I don't know what stores you have there, are there any that specialise in buy/sell of used kit? For example there's a chain in the UK called Cex. Pricing will not be as low as private sale, but you will get store warranty at least to take some of that risk off.

The world today is very different than it was in the two and half years since the launch of the 3070. Today, the cheapest new in stock 3070 at Scan is £20 above the launch MSRP. That is effectively a price drop.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

It's still ridiculous.   The thing is we all know prices will never go down.  I guess if the 40 series sits on shelves for a bit longer nVidia will have to move on price.  Take the XX70 series card for an example though.  I bought my 970 at 260 pounds, my 1070 at 380 pounds, My cousin bought his 2070 at 500 pounds.  The 3070 was in places for an aftermarket cooler version 600ish pounds.  and the rumours of the 4070 are putting it at 700ish??  So that means in 5 generations that the price of the 70 class GPUS has trebled.  How does nVidia think they're gonna sell GPUS now?  If that happened an any other market, say, White goods.  People would be in uproar

Where does it say 70 tier product should either drop in price or stay the same gen on gen? What you want it to be is irrelevant. The world moves on, like it or not. Can't afford a 70 tier product? Get a used product. Get a lower tier. Get a competitor product. Get a console. Get a different hobby.

Nvidia didn't fire sale 30 series, they're not going to fire sale 40 series. The current world situation is more predictable than mining, and they have balanced their production accordingly. In the short term I think the only thing that might make them adjust offerings is if AMD decide to be competitive, not that it is going to happen this gen. Likewise Intel but they're further off for now.

BTW I bought most of the 70 series new too (this is getting off topic?)

Spoiler

EVGA 970 £219 July 2016 - Pascal had launched so pricing was lower than early life

1070 FE £433 July 2016

Gigabyte 2070 £460 Oct 2018

MSI 3070 £730 Feb 2021 - mining era, my sample was before LHR

You should get an AMD GPU, bc they're cheaper than NVIDIA ones.

Buy a Radeon RX 6900XT for ~500$ (if possible).

Check Amazon or Newegg, you should get something similar to this price point

Imagine everything i have written in a Linus Voice/ linus tone (Spock live long and prosper gif here ,idk why tho, i guess i just want to say that i like star trek and am waiting for new seasons of the ongoing shows), But seriously, a lot of what i type only makes sense when said in a Linus tone from an older ltt video (circa 2017-2019 & now 2024-onwards) basically before he got a beard and a lot of it should make sense even in a Linus with a beard face.

also note as per the latest typing test on my laptop, my accuracy is 69%

I'm not weird/creepy, I'm just observant I have ADHD and am not on any meds for it.
