iPad - Apple TV - Youtube

I was wondering… is there a way to somehow cast video from your iPad to your Apple TV in a way that it would not be dependent on the iPad after that? Because any way i tried so far always had the effect, that it started playing the video on Apple TV, but if i tried close the YT app on iPad or play different one, it also affected the Apple TV. And ofc i know it´s not that hard just open YT app on Apple TV and play that video from history, but it’s few more unnecessary steps and this ecosystem should be magical, it’s what they promised! Thank you for your answers.

Not sure if Handoff supports AppleTV at this point, but it totally should!
