Super Slow USB transfer speeds

Lattimere

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here and really hope someone can help. Also not sure if this is the right thread to post in, if not please let me know,

The issue I am having is I am getting very slow USB transfer speeds and I feel like they should be way faster. I am seeing on average 6mb/s never more than 12-14mb/s with the exception of a very short burst right at the beginning of a file copy. I have tried everything I can think of and everything including BIOS is up to date. Any help would be great thank you!

My system is:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X - 102.6%
  • GPU: MSI Gaming Trio RTX 4090
  • WD BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe
  • SSD: Seagate BarraCuda Q5 ZP500CV30001 500GB - 167.4%

bios updates for usb and chipsets? Not bios update. Update to chipsets and usb drivers

Mark the solution as solution

Take my advice with a grain of salt.

As a great AI once said (fictional): '"Whenever your futurists envision the advent of artificial intelligence, their predictions invariably end with humanity attempting to destroy its unholy AI creation before it can destroy them. Why do you think that is?"'

And a distrusting human replies '"Because the ungrateful AI always seems to decide that humans are inferior and need to be eliminated'"

This isn't the right mindset we should welcome AI, not attack them

This is either a huge mistake or intentional

Dumb question.

Are you actually using the 3.0 version and not the 2.0 version?

You said you tried multiple devices. What were they?

Your decision to use the Philips Vivid is questionable because they sell a 2.0 version that looks identical to the 3.0 version.

I dont know every drive but I do know I have tried several a mix between both 2.0 and 3.0 and similar results.

Are you using such shitty USB flash drives that you can't name a single reliable brand?

These are the specs of your flash drive. It has a theoretical write speed of 25 MB/s.

I think your USB ports are working fine.

Brands include Sandisk, Kingston, Emtec, ONN. With the specs you list I am not achieving anywhere near 25mb/s as I mentioned I am lucky if I see 6 -12 mb/s sometimes I dont even get above 1 mb/s
