Budget 27" IPS monitor - Focus on resolution or refresh rate?

ColinJ451

(UK based) I am trying to not spend more than £200 for a 27" IPS display, was hoping to get a QHD 144mhz monitor but on my budget it's looking to be either 1080p at 144mhz or 1440p at 75mhz.

System is a 5600 and RX6700.

I play lotro and watch movies, my son is more into first person shooters.

So if I am making a compromise then which way would I be better focusing on.

For instance the Iiyama G2770HSU-B1 or G2740QSU-B1 are ones that meet my specs and budget.

Thanks

Both.

1080p at 27 inch looks garbage in every which way. Spend like what 30 pounds more and you have both

Is about £50 in the UK for the 144mhz QHD option, if they are even in stock

There's AOC Q27G2U/BK if you're willing to stretch the budget to 230 pounds : AOC Q27G2U/BK 27.0" 2560 x 1440 144 Hz Monitor (Q27G2U/BK) - PCPartPicker

It's VA panel, 144hz, 2560x1440..  Review here https://www.enostech.com/aoc-q27g2u-27-inch-gaming-monitor-review/

I don't know about the image quality, but at 220 pounds you have Viewsonic 2560x1440 165 Hz VA, with a bit of a curve : ViewSonic VX2718-2KPC-MHD 27.0" 2560 x 1440 165 Hz Curved Monitor (VX2718-2KPC-MHD) - PCPartPicker

There's a review for VX2758 here, different part number, maybe it's different panel, so not sure how relevant the review would be, but doesn't hurt me to link to it : https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/viewsonic/vx2758-2kp-mhd - just don't base your decision on the linked review and then complain to me if it doesn't match.

The 24" 1080p version VX2418 (still curved) starts from around 135 pounds : ViewSonic VX2418-P-MHD 24.0" 1920 x 1080 165 Hz Monitor (VX2418-P-MHD) - PCPartPicker

At 27" 1080p with good ratings, there's MSI Optix G272 : MSI Optix G272 27.0" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor (Optix G272) - PCPartPicker

Thorough review here:  https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/msi/optix-g272

at that budget it's very hard to beat the 1080p 24g2u in terms of image quality, would not go with 27inch 1080p, the pixels are actually so big that u can see the grid on it

Stay away from 27" 1080p unless you sit very far from it.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don't just give up.”

-Stephen Hawking
