is & can fury Mark actually damaging cards?

Can running your GPU with fury Mark actually damage the GPU? I don't plan on doing so regardless of the answer I'm just curious thanks!

It doesn't make a ton of sense to run it extensively. It's also not as mad as you seem to think it is, it's only mildly annoyed.

It can damage some older cards that don't have good OCP or power limits as it can blow up the VRM, but pretty much everything still getting driver support should have protections in place to keep Furmark from blowing it up. 

 

Those protections are also why Furmark is not considered a valid stress test for GPU overclocks, the cards downclock heavily to stay under their power limits and therefore aren't actually being stressed. It's good at temp testing as it pins the power limit, but that's about it.

back then it could and i think its because w/e it dose keep adding more and more demand on the render i guess? but people also use you run it for hours at a time...

i guess with out prof of what is really going on its probably a myth. but when it was around people did things like hybrid cooling and that make have not been enough to cool things.

Can confirm. I basically bricked a 200W~ AMD HD GPU (I think it was a HD 7850 if IIRC) by getting too curious and pushing it way past 100c. After blowing up my no-name brand "600W" PSU during the Furmark test and getting a replacement 80+ Bronze PSU, I got to see plenty of visual artifacting and AMD drivers refusing to install properly even after a DDU run. A big yikes on my part.

I remember doing something similar on my gtx 260 back in the day and my computer shut off and I went to school. When I got back home and launched WoW I just saw unicorn puke all over my screen.. Definitely did some damage 😄

Well if GPU come from factory without flaw any test or game never shouldn't break GPU. If GPU somehow extend its max limit shows that there is some flaw in PCB designed. I think that why ATX 3.0 should become standard for all new GPU due this PSU can communicate with GPU and it never give more power than this GPU can handle. Current ATX 2.0 give power to GPU as many as it request while ATX 3.0 even GPU request more power than it actually can handle PSU never give more power than this GPU max limit.
