What are the best Wired headphones + amp for gaming and music?

Captain LeFwee

I want them to be closed back and over ear without a mic, I already have an AT2020. Price isn't really an issue.

Beyerdynamic dt 770 are extremely popular in studio use for accurate sound quality and comfort.  They are probably the most famous headphones around.  I had a pair ( spilled my banana milkshake on them.. )  And they were absolutely fantastic.  Do some research on them.

If price ain't an issue a sony mdr 1 am2 is my favorite closed back sub $500 right now really enjoyably tuned for music pretty good gaming performance.  Now if price really doesn't matter to you the best sounding closed backs I've heard and are goals for me are the ZMF Eikon not hard to drive but a good source would be nice to have and the fostex TH 900 easy tod rive but again good source appreciated. For source gear the magni modi 3+ stack is a nice affordable stack to go with really clean plenty of power for the price.

I have to throw my own philosophy out there because I have a few thousand usd in audio equipment but my most expensive pair of headphones is $350 ($500 if bought new)

If price is no concern why not consider multiple headphones?  And make a hobby out of it? Dac's Amp's Headphones Pad's TUBES?

This is unsolicited advice, but that's the best answer I can give.

A friend of mine has a pair of Focal's and they were golden for the 3 minutes I spent on them, you could look at the Focal Celeste.  If my wallet wasn't occupied with several hobbies and I decided to save up for something it would without a doubt be a pair of Focal's.

But considering a few hundred at a time is all I have available my personal recommendation would be a pair of Rode NTH-100's and if you abuse them and they actually break buy another pair.  And without a doubt improve the chain behind the headphones.  You'd be amazed at how easy it is to spend a grand on a pair of headphones that only cost a couple hundred when looking to get the best they can offer.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of snake oil and diminishing returns, but when I see the words

I start thinking that the bang for the buck that onboard audio offers no longer applies.
