Re: nexus mods for fallout4

Bombastinator

It’s been multiple years since I messed with nexus mods.  I stopped when the internal mod system came out for the game (fallout4).  It seems there is a bunch of stuff they don’t include though, one of which is fenn sheriff’s department.  It looked fascinating, so I just spent over 11 hours downloading the only collection that seemed to have it, and now I’ve got 517 mods.  Supposedly the thing would work rather than just exploding (my personal prediction on what would happen if the game saw 517 mods) and lo it did this thing.  In particular I got a single error message saying that one of the mods had loaded too late.  How do I resolve this?  I was hoping the load order would be set up already but this may not be the case?  What sort of horror might I need to go through?  How might I fix this?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

More data:  the box says:

main.cpp(269): Buffout4 has loaded too late.  Try adjusting the plug-in preloader load method

i don’t know what many of those words even mean anymore 😰.  Can someone point me to an idiot’s guide or some such?

Oh boy. Yeah that sounds like a mess. I'd delete all the mod stuff and start from scratch. Use Mod Organizer 2, not Vortex/Nexus Mod Manager (absolute nightmare to manually sort stuff in that).

Mod Organizer 2 is grabbed off the Skyrim SE Nexus, but it's a standalone app that works with any supported game (basically all the bethesda ones and a bunch of others too): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6194.

The Midnight Ride if you want a pretty robust install, don't need all the mods they recommend though, just up to bug fixes: https://themidnightride.github.io/index.html

Will need to read the instructions on some of the mods themselves, Buffout 4 being the main one as install is partly manual.

Or you can skip all that and just install the specific mods you want and their dependencies.

Fens Sheriff's Dept is here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/68276. It doesn't require anything other than the base game and all DLCs.

Looks like it takes place in a lot of Downtown Boston, you will likely want PRP as well if you have performance issues there (repairs all the broken precombine meshes, this is the main reason for massive stuttering in Boston itself as a lot are broken there in the vanilla game): https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/46403. PRP does require the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4598.

Load order should be UF4P -> Fens Sheriff's Dept -> PRP loading last so nothing re-breaks the precombines.

Also of note, do not use "LOOT" auto-sorting in Vortex or MO2, some mods say to but it doesn't really work well for Fallout 4 and generally causes more issues than it solves AFAIK.

Before reading your replyI loaded the nexus page in edge (the default browser of win11) clicked some button, and it worked.  Sort of.  The game showed full screen, but I could only move the mouse within a center section.  I could theoretically play this way and was able to get out without hardcrashing the machine because everything outside that box had keybindings.  I suspect it has something to do with default screen sizes set at startup.  There are a bunch of screen resolutions.  I don’t have a 1080p monitor anymore.  It’s 4k now.  I’ll mess with that a bit and report back

Lol.  I set the thing to 1080p and got the same error again. Argh.  Trying your other mod manager thing…
