is it a great time to build a pc right now? or should I wait a bit longer?

Esuess

Budget (including currency): Php 85,000 or $1,520

Country: Philippines

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:  Mostly for gaming but also for hosting multiplayer games for me and my friends (usually 4-6 people) and some light editing.

Other details:

currently using a laptop:

Acer Predator Helios 300

i7-9750H

GTX 1660 Ti

16 GB DDR4 2666MHz

256 ssd, 512gb ssd, 1tb hdd

The plan is to build an ITX pc, use my spare GTX 970 for the time being while I scrounge up some more money, and then buy a RTX 4070 later.

I'm unsure if I should go through with the upgrade and if I should take the AMD route as it feels like the promise of AM5's upgradability really is enticing but 13700KF does suit my need for now. I was look at the R9 7900 but the mobo available in the store i'm looking at along with the 7900 will increase the budget by Php 10k / $200.

Store: https://dynaquestpc.com/

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700KF

Mobo: MSI MPG Z790I Edge WiFi DDR5

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB 16GBx2 DDR5 6000MHz CL36

SSD: Sabrent Rocket M.2 1TB NVMe

Cooler: BeQuiet Pure Loop 280mm AIO Water Cooler

CaseLian Li Q58 Mesh PCIE 4.0 Riser White

PSU: FSP Dagger PRO Gold SFX 850W 80+ Full Modular

The current cart:

Thank you in advance!

The 13700kf is a bit of hotbox so I would say that you change out the 13700kf for a ryzen 7000 non x chip. such as the 7700 which is a good price to performance

Why do you want a z mobo?

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

no reason in particular, it's just that there are only 2 ITX mobo in the store. The other one is a bit cheaper but is a year older.

Isn't there somewhere else you can go?

Z mobos can be used for overclocking the CPU, but they also have features the H and B mobos are missing.

I was actually thinking if the AIO could handle it.

I did actually look at the prices for AMD stuff and the 7700 is actually going for ₱19,900.00 here while the 13700kf is at ₱24,960 and the difference is around $100. But then I'd have to buy an AM5 mobo which, the only available one in the store i'm shopping for is also $100 difference from the intel board.

Most of the shops here carry the same brands and for more money. I could try to get lower tier boards but i'm not seeing other brands of ITX mobo that are cheaper. Most of the itx boards i've been seeing are around the $350-$450 range.

From other countries? that's a no. We have a dumb law where you pay up to 60% of the value of a product imported above 10,000 or $200. There are e-commerce sites as well but the trusted ones are the same shops. The other ones are either from china or from a sketchy vendor.

the 7700 has nearly the same performance though with a much lower power budget and temperature budget as well so i think it would be a good investment

@filpo, raptor lake and Zen 4 are comparable in gaming while varying on game- to game basis so this really does not matter and the guy has access to the 13700kf which has the same performance to the i7 13700k which is ABOVE the ryzen CPUs in the graph u showed. also games have started to use more than 8 threads so games are now using 12-16 threads, so the intel CPU also has a better future because of the extra P cores it has over the ryzen while not even considering the e-cores. the MT performance is a bonus so the i7 is a better deal

I like the data but I think people might not realize that the K and KF are basically the same except the iGPU.

If you mean the i7-13700KF is a good CPU, yes.

If you mean the 7700 is a good CPU, also yes.

Fact is the current generation of both AMD and Intel are really good CPU.

at least we finally got some competition instead of one always better than the other. Was like that from 2020 to 2021 until early 2022 when we got 12th gen

yes we can agree on that and is undebatable but the screenshots that u sent when you replied to me are not fair, you are comparing the thermals of a 16 core CPU based on a inferior node(tho thats intels fault, intel 4 is long ready) to a 8 core CPU on not-so-cutting-edge-anymore-but-still-very-good TSMC 5nm superfin
