My plan was to update by X470 board from F2 > F31 > F40 > F60 but this seems like a really long winded process. Is jumping straight to F60 not an option? Why?

Correct. That's the BIOS upgrade path you have to follow in order to get to at least F60 or newer. Must be something to do with AGESA updates in previous versions necessary for later BIOS updates, but not too sure why other than Gigabyte recommends flashing an intermediate BIOS in order to get to the latest.

Hey folks,

Been a while. Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Anyway, I have an X470 Aorus mboard on the F2 BIOS and considering upgrading the 2600X CPU that's in there to a 5700X (requires BIOS F60 I believe). I've updated my other machine (an X570 board) from F2 to F4 which was simple, but it seems there's a little bit of a contention surrounding going from F2 on the X470 to F60. Here's the link... X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING (rev. 1.0) Support | Motherboard - GIGABYTE Global

So, after looking online to find out what the ECFW tool actually does and whether I need it, it seems like there were some headaches upgrading to F31 (see link above - Gigabyte recommends F31 before going to F40)

Can somebody advise on the best path forward here? My plan was to update the X470 board from F2 > F31 > F40 > F60 but this seems like a really long winded process. Is jumping straight to F60 not an option? Why?

Thanks!

Tom.

Any idea why this is a requirement? Does it need to be done before or after I install F40 (following F31, that is)?

It appears to be the utility used to flash the BIOS. There should be two files inside and one is the BIOS firmware and the other is the EC FW tool, so run the .exe for the EC FW tool and then update the BIOS.

Might be a silly question, but am I running the exe in Windows or running it through the BIOS update environment on the motherboard? 🙈

Should be in Windows, maybe there is a user guide/read me in the BIOS file download?
