Leaning towards a Corsair M95 - Thoughts?

Stefky

Hi,

I am in need of a decent gaming mouse and so far the M95 is looking pretty good to me. My needs are:

- I have pretty large hands with long fingers. I've read this is quite a long mouse so could be a good fit.

- The same large hands with long fingers mean I am finding it very difficult to utilise the cluster of keys in PC games. Having fingers hovering over WASD, Shift and Space equals a cramped up clawed hand for me. I want to move as many buttons to the mouse as I can, without getting into the overkill of the MMO mice with keypads on the side. M95 has plenty of buttons, but not so many it would be as fiddly as the keyboard is.

My concerns are I have read a few negative opinions about laser sensors on this forum, but I am not sure I would even be able to tell acceleration having only just come to PC games. Its also a shame it doesn't have adjustable weight.

Does anyone have any other reasons I shouldn't go with this (given the needs I mentioned) and which other mouse would they recommend otherwise?

Many thanks for reading.

I want the same thing, man mainly for dota 2 but I'm scared that the buttons will fail me, but hey who knows? Waiting on this check.

laser and mouse acceleration is always something one should stay away from until they stop making laser mice... tho most dont use mousefix and then complain the didnt notice much of a difference, seeing as without that there will still be some mouse accel left.

But to someone not used to not having acceleration in games, will it actually be a negative? I'm learning keyboard and mouse, so it's not like I'll notice, I'd just learn around it.

Also - is there an optical mouse you could recommend that meets my needs?

A large mouse with a lot of buttons, but not as much as many as the specialist MMO ones with a full number pad on?

Logitech G502 has an amazing sensor and a handful of extra buttons.

Thanks Verne. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be for sale anywhere in the UK. There is one on a dodgy looking Amazon marketplace seller, but I'm not touching that with a bargepole. Shame it looks decent.

It should become available in Europe this week.

@Verne - What do you think of the G400s?

It's inexpensive, seems to be well spoken of, available now and looks like it would have just enough buttons to work for me.

What games do you play? If all you play are RPGs and Minecraft, a laser sensor will be fine. Their inferiority is only in regards to faster-paced games where clicking the right place as fast as possible is an issue (FPS, DotA, RTS etc.)

I mostly play FPS and third person action games that control like FPS.

I play a lot of indie style games too like platformers as well, but most of them would control better with my 360 PC pad anyway.

I guess a laser is out then, which is a shame as otherwise the M95 looks about perfect.

What do you think of the G400s?

It looks like it would have just about enough buttons for me, and isn't too expensive.

It also looks a bit more 'grown up' than the G502, which has that 'GAMERZ' teenage look to its aesthetic. Looks are pretty low on my priority list, but I do hate how so many PC components and accessories seem aimed at teenagers.

G400s would be fine, but if you're okay with just 2 side-buttons, then your options increase dramatically. Check out the G602 as well, it's wireless but you get the perfect sensor + multiple side-buttons combination.

Three buttons on top as well though with the G400s? I would like more side buttons, but really don't want to consider a wireless one.

In terms of other options if I'm OK with 2 side buttons (plus three extra on top) - are there better options than the G400s?

That's true, I wasn't considering you could rebind the DPI buttons. Most other mice will only have an extra 2 on top, if any. In that regard, the G400s might be the best possible option. The only other thing that comes to mind is the Roccat Kone Pure Optical which has easy-shift, meaning that when you hold down one of the side buttons (not sure if you can change it to something else), all the other buttons on the mouse get reassigned, including scroll up/scroll down, effectively giving you another 8 buttons.

Thanks Toby, think I will wait on the UK price for the G502 and then make my mind up between it and the G400s depending.

I have an M95. I really like it. I dont even play that many RPG's but I find the buttons useful for pretty much all games.

My only complaint about the mouse is the corsair software. Its not bad, but has a learning curve. Once you get used to it you can do whatever you want easily, but its not always obvious what you need to do.

Well, just ordered the Logitech G502, will drop a review on the forums after it's arrived and I've had a couple of weeks with it.

Thanks for the advice and view of all on the thread.
