I Turned My Ex-Employer’s Logo into a Gaming PC - Part 1

James

Check out the products we used (or tried to) in this build:
ASROCK Z690 Phantom Gaming Motherboard: https://geni.us/7VZxBy2
EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra GPU: https://geni.us/DZB2
SABRENT 2TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD: https://geni.us/jRGE
Corsair RM1000x PSU: https://geni.us/ZLQBA
Silverstone SX800-LTI PSU: https://geni.us/BM8hdB
FSP 1U 850W PSU: https://lmg.gg/6dOoQ
EKWB EK-CoolStream Classic SE 360 Radiator: https://geni.us/1TBnaf2

What do you do when you find the sign of your former employer for sale? You build a gaming PC inside of it, obviously. But where will the GPU go? The motherboard? How will the watercooling fit between the letters to keep everything from overheating? Will Linus ever realize his dream of working at NCIX?

Tanner is hilarious.

Also he has a sweet beard.

I guess it would be "cheating" but maybe rebuild the NCIX sign with new materials that don't stink and RGB lights, and adjust the dimensions slightly to be a better PC case?  Cool to reduce consumption and reuse old things, but not so cool to have a smelly sign in your office, that compromises the PC over a few inches.

Solution for the lighting issue:

Put LED strips on the sides of the case.

then you can add as many as there is room, making it one big RGB box

No need to keep the backs of each letter. Just lay them down on a big sheet of MDF, trace out the shape, mount the components inside the lines, and then stick the front of the letters over the top (just glue a couple blocks of wood around the perimeters and use screws going into the sides of the letters). That gains you extra room to play with that would have been taken up by the backs.

so it was 9000MHz 69cl 8TB DDR kit CT8T90C69UD, or is it a bait with that DDR9?

I build and service commercial signs for a living. Loving this project! White components would definitely help with the lighting. I would try getting some rgb sign leds and placing them anywhere you can. principal led makes a rgb product called street fighter that works really well. The diodes have lenses on them that help cast the light more evenly onto the face of the sign. Id be happy to send some to you to try. https://www.p-led.com/products/street-fighter-rgb/

FOR THE LOVE OF... put the mobo and gpu in the N. That would even let you cut out an IO port. The side clearance issues you had would be gone because of the \ in the N.

Yeah mobo and GPU in the N.

also yes remove backs and make a single wood backplate with added stand-off to each letter.

more room for parts and then leds under letter pointed back to wooden board so the letters have glow effect around them.

Water tube between letter like neon would be cool too.

Engineers at LMG rise up and fix this!

ooo yes halo lighting would be cool!!

A solution to the lighting problems could be EL panels as long as you don't care about it being rgb. They're thin, flexible and you can cut them to fit.

An example of modding ... You're a skilled computing trophy hunter ... But you could have built a new, modular, reusable case inspired by the NCIX logo instead of actually using the old logo.
Of course congratulations ... Chris Hemsworth would probably approve of it, but he's currently in another galaxy in the role of Thor. :) Anyway why don't you build a computer inspired by Mjölnir or Stormbreaker? It's your opportunity. In your workshop you have everything you need to do it unlike us mere mortals.

Tanner's dry sarcasm really added a lot to this one. Hope to see him be a smartass to Linus more in the future 😄

What happened to this computer? Did it get finised? Would have loved to see an update on it and how it turned out.
