BIOS Code C7 ASUS WRX80-SAGE SE WIFI

 Share

I keep getting stuck on BIOS Code C7 and I cannot find any information on what this code actually means. It's not in the Q-Code Table in the manual. Even weirder is I can only clear the error by doing a BIOS Flashback as pressing the Clear CMOS button on the back of the computer does nothing. Then I can configure BIOS to my needs but then I get stuck on code C7 again.

If I wait a while I get the POST beep and the screen says to check to make sure the 8-Pin PCIe power cable is connected to the motherboard which it already is. So I am really confused.

This is a replacement board the ASUS just sent me although at least it's not getting stuck on code 99 which also forced me to do a BIOS flashback.

I don't have another Threadripper Pro CPU to make sure it's not a CPU issue.

what happens if you just try to run at default?
assuming that helps not at all, if c7 is a low power warning it might be a PSU problem or a cable problem or (eek) a cpu or motherboard hardware problem.  I would also be tempted to pull all the pcie cards, clear cmos, and try again.  It’s not in windows or the drive because you haven’t even booted yet.  If it does help it may be there’s a problem with those needs configurations, whatever they are. There may be an answer having to do with what you changed.  Also you might have a bad pcie card.  I don’t know anything other than this weird code though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Like I said clearing CMOS does absolutely nothing. Running at the bare minimum after getting this error does not work. The only way to get it to work is to use BIOS flashback to reinstall the BIOS. I'm not running Windows, I' running Unraid. It does seem that one of the BIOS settings I change may be causing it but why I don't know. I guess I'll have to change the BIOS setting one by one until I find the one that's causing the error.  This is the first time using this motherboard as I just got it from ASUS as a warranty replacement so I would hope it's not the board.

I always seem to get the weird errors that nobody knows anything about. LOL.

You said you cleared cmos then changed your settings.  Which implied you could get into bios then.I’m saying don’t change nuttin. Try to Run bone stock.  If that has been attempted already though then that would be data. Also if you can get to bios rewriting over the current bios even if it’s the exact same version might help.  Do you have any unusual hardware connected to it? Sound card or something (yeah, sound cards are unusual now)

I said clearing CMOS didn't fix anything and I had to use BIOS flashback to reinstall the BIOS in order to POST anything.

The only PCIe devices I use are the ASUS Hyper X quad m.2 card that came with the motherboard so one of the BIOS settings I had to change was to set that slot to RAID mode (aka 4x4x4x4). I have a dual 10G SFP+ card since the onboard dual 10G ports don't work properly with Unraid yet. I have an HBA Card for the ZFS HDDs. I didn't even have a discrete GPU installed since this board has a built-in VGA GPU chip.

Are you trying to hardware raid nvme?  That basically never works right I understand.  I don’t know the particulars.  Just that it’s a no-no.

I'm not using any kind of hardware RAID. For some reason ASUS calls 4x4x4x4 PCIe Bifurcation PCIe NVMe RAID. In order to use the included Hyper M.2 quad NVMe card you have to set that slot's mode to 4x4x4x4.

Right now I am not getting the C7 error.

It seems that when I enable SR-IOV in BIOS I get the  C7 error. Any ideas on why?

I personally got no idea.  Others might though.
