Should i be concerned about my psu

my friend has given me a gtx 680 for my pc and since i have put in the 680 when i put the gpu under load my power supply smells like something is burning. i know it is not the gpu because this doesn't happen in my friends pc just mine. it smells like burning hot glue or burning plastic. the psu does not make the smell if i am not doing anything gpu intesive. the smell doesn't seem to be as bad as it used to be or im just getting used to it. should i be concerned about the psu or is this something that might be normal for it. the psu is a HEC ACE 580UB it is almost 17 years old.

Did you ever clean dust from your PSU? (blow it with compressed gas can at 2-3 inches away)

And 17 year is a long time for a PSU. Plus 580W may not be enough for a GTX 680, the card alone draws 200W (check your set up using a component power consumption too like this: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator)

You want a PSU loaded to about 60-80% of total rating

P.S. I would consider replace it, since typical PSU warrenty is only 5years, premium PSU warrenty is at 10-12 years

A 17 year old psu? Its suprising it still works at all.

I would highly recommend you get a new psu, if youre stressing it out with a higher power gpu then it probably wont last too much longer.

That name is a throwback. I remember these back in the old days when i hang around facebook for tech (yeah now its awfrible, but back then its nice place to be), hidden tanks but still very unreliable to today standard. But yeah, those burning? If youre sure the smell source is the PSU, id try another PSU like immediately, if im being honest.
