Reacting to the WORST Tech Ads

Technology companies are notorious for bad advertising campaigns. We react to some of the worst of the bunch!

How could you not immediately recognize the Emissary of the Prophets himself, Captain Sisko?

(And I think that's Kevin Costner in the Apple Lisa ad. Apple was very proud of that product for about 10 months.)

Hey, wait a minute! Is this a backdoor pilot for the LMG Reacts channel?

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I do miss the good old days of sexual ads ... unfortunately the woke generation has made them bad.

That's why no one buys things anymore an irrefutable fact that no amount of wokeness or activism can ever change as long as mammals exist ( sex sells )

The thing that surprises me the most is the frankly insanely low production budgets of these ads...

Though, haven't watched ads in years, especially not on the TV. But a few years ago when I did, the production value were a fair bit higher. At least here in Sweden. Though, most tech ads often were mostly about the raw specs of whatever were getting sold, some panning shots and some base heavy music. (No, Elgiganten clearly didn't at all get their ads stuck in my head...)

Also.

The concept of "vacuum cleaners creates static discharge" is a very false misconception.

It is true that dry moving air creates electrostatic buildup. This is regardless of what direction the air is moving in. So compressed air is just as bad as a vacuum cleaner.

Though, electrostatic buildup is likewise not particularly harmful towards electronics. Since practically all ESD sensitive components have integrated protection against it. (It is just a pair of diodes on each pin, one to ground, the other to the positive power rail.) As electrostatic charge is building up, it will simply continuously discharge, and the circuits won't care about this frankly tiny amount of charge flowing through the ESD protection, it is designed for far larger currents.

However, a net charge can still accumulate, and this could be rapidly discharged and destroy the device. But, If one leaves the mains power cable attached while vacuuming one's computer, then it is grounded. It won't accumulate charge at that point.

So in the end.

Vacuum your computer if you feel like it. It is completely harmless.

When cleaning certain devices, mainly BGA and QFN packages, then it generally preferred to use vacuum instead of compressed air. Since compressed air can lodge clumps of dust underneath these packages. This can affect signal integrity if the dust is somewhat conductive. Or worst case simply short things out, sometimes with associated fires. (However, these are rare events and if one cleans one's computer at any modest interval, then this shouldn't be a major issue.)

Asus and MSI made bad commercials,

It was bad back then and it's even worse now.

And as someone who is stuck with a mindset from 2010 i didn't have issues with the cross-dressing and puppy commercials.

I remember that back in the day Danica Patrick did commercials for GoDaddy and if you notice she was the driver in the puppy commercial.

So the MSi,asrock and ASUS ones I have a theroy.

The asrock sounds like ADR (horrible adr) to be in english, but I bet the target was places like japan or Taiwan.

Mostly asia is really into idol culture and so that happens.

I already fell in love with the MS-DOS 5 music video. I already watched this one Xbox commercial on YouTube decades ago. I know this Dust-Off Gaming Gear infomercial because of a H3H3 video 8 years ago.

Such nostalgia trips.

Motto of "sex sells" doesnt work as well in tech as is in other segment like cars and bodycare products, atleast from how i see it. Its just more financially effective to hand out sponsor cash to reviewers or tech media nowadays.

Dear Linus Media Group, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my disappointment in your recent sponsorship with Meta and their decision to shut down Echo VR, the most popular VR esports game. Echo VR has been a source of enjoyment and community for VR gamers, providing a unique and immersive gaming experience. The shutdown of the game has caused widespread frustration and disappointment among the player base, myself included. As a long-time fan of Linus Media Group, I have always valued your commitment to the gaming community and your advocacy for the preservation of popular games. However, your recent sponsorship with Meta seems to go against these values. By supporting Meta, you are indirectly supporting their decision to shut down Echo VR, which is a major blow to the VR gaming industry. I kindly request that Linus Media Group reconsider its sponsorship with Meta and take a stand against their decision to shut down Echo VR. It would be great to see Linus Media Group bring up this issue on the WAN Show or consider doing a video discussing the negative impact of Meta's decision on the VR gaming community. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNs5lQg9LIc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj6UWDMRX54 Please see these links for more info. Best regards

Good lord, it's been a long time since I've actually watched TV (like, with the commercials and such). And even then, it was pretty much confined to Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and some Disney channel. A lot of my TV watching time was spent with my little sister, so there was a lot of mid-2000's Nick-Jr stuff in there too. And then before that, there was the Saturday cartoons (my intense dislike for sports came from disrupting my Saturday toons), and the after-school toons, maybe an episode of Simpsons. My toddler years were probably the most diverse, including the early-90's children's PBS shows, lots of Simpsons, Home Improvement, Seinfield, Cops, etc. In general, I didn't watch a ton of TV. I definitely spent more time playing games and reading, than watching TV.

The more sexualized commercials I felt in poor taste, even in the 2000's. My opinion certainly hasn't changed now. They're about as cringe as ever, especially as the models have little, or nothing to do with the product itself. It escapes my understanding tbh.

Was definitely hoping to see some early Pokemon commercials in there. That one with all the Pokemon on the bus was pretty much the height of commercials.

My eyes see the past…

My camera lens sees the present…

Does Linus not remember the era of IBM and IBM clones?

We North American mid-30-somethings are generally too young to remember a time before "personal computer" was synonymous with "IBM compatible" in our market.

By the mid-90s, 8-bit home computers were dead, the Amiga was hanging on by its fingernails, and the Macintosh was treading water (partly as Microsoft's "hey look we have viable competition, we're not a monopoly" fig leaf). PCs were "IBM compatibles", but only marketing aimed at stuffy corporate types still called them that (because "nobody ever got fired for buying an IBM").

Linus claiming folding phones don't get girls attention, but a few weeks ago I was at a asian shop, and this cute girl behind the counter asked me about it (Fold 3) when I used it to pay, she had been thinking about the 3 or the 4 herself, and wanted to ask me about it, had a nice chat.

Ok sure it was the first time in nearly a year... but hey it's the most attention I've gotten from a cute girl in a long time.

PS my gf didn't care much for my story. Oh well.
