I would suggest ensuring that the RAM used is on the board manufacturer's QVL list. I made the mistake of not doing this before I knew it was a thing and my brand-new 5900X build drove me nuts for months.

my motherboard supports the non rgb verson of my ram module, should i be fine with the rgb version too? plus what happened when you put in the incompatible ram, did it not boot or was the system sketchy

And why is that?

Also you won't necessarily need a BIOS update if the BIOS it comes with supports the CPU.

You don't need a PC for that,

You can use a USB SD card reader with a SD card inside instead, connect it to your phone and download the latest stable BIOS version to the USB SD card reader,

Then you can use it like a USB stick and update the BIOS.

Or you could just buy a USB drive, you can buy one for 5 quid and is a lot cheaper than the 85 quid premium you will pay for the updated motherboard you have in your list.

Better performance

how dangerous is it

If you set the voltage too high it can kill your DIMMs,

If you do it wrong it can cause stability issues.

Stability issues can also cause data corruption and BSODs

6 minutes ago, Blqckout said:

how do i do it

I can write a 3 page long guide on how to do that,

But i am not going to do that, you can look for guides on the internet,

Though i would recommend you do a deep research and ask on the forums if there are questions before you do anything.

But maybe it's better to wait until you get more experienced with PCs.

ram is a wonderful thing but all dimms have a base speed and a speed that the dimm can be used at without any risk to the dimm,

So you see a dimm that is rated to run at 3200 but without XPM it chugs along at 2600. this is very normal.

XMP is good for millions of people and works flawlessly until it does not. It is an overclock. that highest number on a chip is a reccommended max speed that will cause no damage.

It is also a mystery for some people as there PC works 100% perfectly until 1 game is loaded and boom crash to the desktop. Prime example is the game Warframe as it can run 5 minutes maybe 5 hours but with XMP enabled it will crash, I disabled XMP on my rig and now play Warframe as long as I want and it nevr crashes.

Now add to the mix an overclock that is not done via XMP. ?
