Asus prime x570-p + Asus 3060 dual v2 PCIE GEN 4 mode problems

Hello!

Long story short, my new GPU (mentioned in the title) was not working on the top slot of my MOBO, bottom slot was fine. I finally tried to force pcie mode to GEN 3 instead of auto or GEN4 and this sloved the issue.

Does anyone know what might cause my GPU not working on auto or GEN4? I suspect my quite old 6-7years XFX 550w PSU might have something to do with it?

Judging by few benchmarks the FPS difference between pcie 3.0 and 4.0 is not big?

It took my quite bit of head scratching (it is 4:30AM and work tomorrow) to manage to get to this point. I tried every other possible thing in the known universe to fix the issue before forcing the GEN 3 setting. 🤦‍♂️

I'm in a hurry to bed so sorry for the sloppy post! 🙂

Some specs:

Windows 11 64bit

ASUS prime x570-p

ASUS RTX3060 DUAL V2

16gb DDR4

XFX 550w PRO

It might just be a weird technicality on it being a PCIe 3.0 card.

Logic and experience tells us that you should be able to run a PCIe Gen3 card in a PCIe Gen4 slot and just have lower speed, but maybe there's something different about Gen4 compared to Gen3 that prevents that.

Asus GeForce DUAL-RTX3060-O12G-V2 is a PCIe 4.0

Yeah nah I'm tripping, you are correct. It is a Gen 4 card.
