Copying Minecraft survival world

Copying worlds in Minecraft
So I'm sure I used to be able to copy a survival world with all the structures mobs everything and change it to creative when opened to LAN and plan out shapes builds designs for whatever.
Now when I copy a world it doesn't copy the structures. Or anything i have done to the world, it copy's the seed and seems to take all the mobs over but nothing I have built. It even remembers that I slept in a villagers bed and when I die from suffocating in a wall it spawns me there instead of at spawn.

 

Does any one have any ideas???

 

I was kind of counting on being able to plan things out without having to completely double build everything.
