Laptop won't extend/duplicate to another display. Please help!!

Hello, I have a lenovo thinkpad x1 and it wont extend or even duplicate to another screen via USB-C. It used to work fine but then stopped working all of a sudden. The ports carry data fine (I connected my phone to my laptop with the same USB-C cable and could access data on my laptop) and the screen duplicates/extends fine (checked with another laptop). My laptop just won't duplicate/extend to another display (tried two other displays, same issue).

Things I have tried:

1) Tried multiple displays (displays work fine with another laptop)

2) Tried different USB-C cables (they work fine carrying data and duplicate/extend displays with another laptop)

3) Tried different laptops

4) Updated everything from windows update center + Lenovo Vantage (commercial version)

5) Installed USB-C display link drivers from Lenovo's website

Please help. Thank you!!

Probably a shot in the dark, but you did look in the display settings?
Going deeper than that, the NVIDIA driver has settings for displays as well, there might be something there? I'm just throwing spaghetti at the wall tbh

Please tag me or use the "reply" function so I get a notification

I will find your Laptop thread and I will recommend an ITX build instead

Sure would be neat if there was something useful here, eh?

either type-c can function for displayport out, have you tried both?

are you using it with just a cable into the laptop or with the dock?
I haven't had much luck with those dock connectors, unfortunately I just think its busted. I've had 4 (four) T480 fail kinda in the same way. Pretty sure the mux just dies randomly or fails stuck in usb mode

you can double check it with a ubuntu live usb or something just to rule out os or driver issues.

Ive tried using multiple USB-C cables and HDMI cables as well. None work. Connecting it directly to the laptop, no dock. Any guide on how I can use ubuntu live? Thanks!!

Go to the Ubuntu website and create an install stick, you can select the live environment to test when you boot it.
