Upgrading from a Vega 64?

Brandi93
 Share

So I've had an ASUS Vega 64 strix for years now.

I have it hooked up with my Samsung 4k TV which I play 1080p on. The TV has amazing upacaling technology so I am not interested in native 4K, prefer 1080p and maximum fps for smooth gameplay.

I play very heavy games, like Cyberpunk, Plague Tale Requiem, forspoken.

What would you guys recommend me I upgrade my vega to, gpu wise?

I was thinking an RX 6700 xt for 1080p should cut it but I'm happy to hear other suggestions!

I will be selling the pc so I am doing a brand new build with an i5 12400F. (currently i5 8500) thank you.

If you want to play forspoken at 60fps or around that, a 6700XT will be a bit underwhelming. You should probably go with a stronger GPU. Outside of that, the 6700XT is pretty great and doesn't consume too much power. I play at 1440p with the non-XT and I am perfectly happy while playing Cyberpunk with ultra settings.

Wow 35 fps at 1080p? Those must be ultra settings right? I'm more interested in high settings as I'm not a fan of ultra, diminishing returns for the performance hit.

With my vega I get average 45 fps with standard / medium settings on forspoken. I wonder if 6700xt would do 60fps average on high settings.

But yeah very very unoptimised game 😞

Edit: According to Techpowerup Forspoken Benchmark the RX 6700 XT gets 61 fps average on ultra 1080p

At 1080p you're (very generally) taxing the CPU rather than the GPU, though Ultra settings means both will be stressed. Make sure to note what CPU they use to benchmark the game on TPU.

Maybe check benchmarks for Forspoken with the 12400F/6700XT combo and comparing that against, say, a 12700K. It might illuminate which combo might be better, or what is more pertinent to upgrade.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.

Have you considered the Radeon 6750XT with 12Gigs ram?  Mine works great and I don't have any complaints at all about it.  It runs quiet and cool all the time for me.  I only play one game though, World of Warcraft and I am now getting 75-85 FPS depending on  where I am and what I'm doing.  Good luck with your decision.

Yeah, I would probably just go for any 67XX card and look for the best price/performance ratio. My 6700 was reduced and further away on price than performance when I bought it, while usually the 6700XT is the batter deal here.

12 gigs of VRAM is nice, for sure, but luckily the 6700 has at least 10 and not just 8.

Forspoken will surely get much better with coming updates and I would assume that I probably just posted early numbers and @Brandi93 has newer numbers.

I can just say that I am very happy with the 6700 @1440p and you surely will be with anything above that.

Darktide just sucked upon release when I tried it in game pass and I couldn't play it at native 1440p, but I hope that has gotten fixed as well. However, I just enabled FSR and it looked great.

I know you don't want 1440p, but that shows you that at 1080p you will have some headroom

Unoptimized I'd say although it's not a bad looking game IMO. It's like the most demanding game currently on Windows I think, up there with Microsoft Flight Simulator and Plague Tale Requiem / Cyberpunk 2077 (at launch).

Gotcha.

Also, I'd probably go with a $350 6700XT as you mention in your original post.  Should be a good pairing and great for 1080p for a while.

Sorry, didn't know where you were.  Yes, I'm in USA and checked US pcpartpicker.

Ouch, 450ish is a damn lot for a 6700XT.  Are all your options just overpriced or is the 3060Ti decent?  I think the 6600xt isn't quite enough card.

Same price more or less, this is the cheapest 3060 ti I could find here in Germany. Screenshot_20230202_145248.thumb.jpg.2c6ed3558f6579c4bb97ca9a6387e42f.jpg

Nice.  Grab that 6700xt.  I was going to ask about the 6750XT as it was 459, but if the 6700XT is that much less... go 6700XT.

Same advice from me. If you have to go with a lower budget, the 6700 is fine. However, the XT is better value

get it!

There is just one that has been sent back for 339

If everything is fine, it is amazing value. If not, just send it back.

It's heartening to see that here, and other forums, I'm beginning to see more and more upgraders looking at better price/performance value cards like the RX 6600XT/6650XT/6700/6700XT/6750XT, they're usually well priced against nVidia's lower tier cards (like how a 6700 XT is priced similarly to the RTX 3060, yet spanks it in games).

As for the Forspoken GPU benchmark, I'd look at TPU's benchmark as a guide as to what the RX 6700 XT can do , 60fps and higher is possible with some ingame graphics setting tweaks. As for TV upscaling, I dunno if it works for games, but I do agree that theese days, an upscaled 1080P movie to 4K via the TV's upscaling hardware is pretty amazing. That's why I'm happy to keep buying Blu ray movies, though I do have 4K Blu ray movies (for movies I really like, like Jack Snyder's Justice League, Train to Busan, etc)
